Job description

Construction Safety Specialist

Third Shift | Watertown, NY | Local Candidates Only

Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to support an active construction project in Watertown, NY. This is a hands-on field role for a safety professional who is passionate about protecting workers, ensuring OSHA compliance, and building a strong safety culture alongside General Contractors and trade partners.

Whether your experience is as a Construction Safety Specialist, Site Safety Specialist, Construction Safety Professional, SSHO (Site Safety & Health Officer), Safety Coordinator, or Safety Consultant, we'd like to hear from you.

Local candidates only. Applicants must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Watertown, NY. Relocation, travel, and per diem are not available for this position.

What You'll Do

As the on-site Construction Safety Specialist, you'll partner with project leadership, General Contractors, and subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OSHA and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site safety resource for project teams, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections, audits, and field observations.
  • Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and verify timely resolution.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and employee engagement.
  • Lead and support Pre-Task Planning (PTPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), permit programs, and incident investigations.
  • Facilitate new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and task-specific safety training.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Support high-risk work activities, including electrical safety, fall protection, confined space entry, crane operations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and hot work.
  • Maintain safety reports, inspection records, incident documentation, and project safety metrics.
  • Partner with project leadership to support continuous safety improvement across the jobsite.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways:

Option 1

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time construction safety experience

Option 2

  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time construction safety experience
  • One of the following certifications:
    • CSP
    • CIH
    • ASP
    • CHST

Option 3

  • Minimum of 6 years of full-time construction safety experience
  • Current OSHA 500 certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting General Contractors on commercial, industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, mission-critical, or data center construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Experience supporting high-risk construction activities.
  • Strong hazard recognition, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety management systems.

Work Environment

This is an active, field-based position requiring daily presence on a construction site.

Responsibilities include:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Climbing ladders and working at heights
  • Entering confined spaces when required
  • Navigating uneven terrain
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to work a day shift with overtime as project demands require.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Burlington, NJ.
  • No relocation assistance, travel reimbursement, or per diem is available for this opportunity.
