Major Function

Safety Controls Technology (SCT), a nationally recognized occupational safety and health consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Safety Manager / Safety Specialist to support construction and industrial clients across the country.


This role is responsible for driving regulatory compliance, reducing risk, and advancing client safety culture through proactive leadership, assessment, training, and incident management.


Requirements:

Essential Functions

Under the direction of SCTโ€™s Senior Safety Management Team, the Safety Manager / Specialist will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct comprehensive, site-wide safety and health risk assessments to identify hazards and systematically prioritize mitigation efforts.
  • Promote and enforce construction site and plant safety compliance in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards.
  • Lead and participate in investigations of recordable injuries, high-risk incidents, illnesses, and near-miss events; perform root cause analyses (RCA) and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Prepare detailed incident investigation reports and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Support and enhance client safety culture by implementing proactive safety programs, systems, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve auditing and inspection processes; conduct annual audits of safety, health, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Perform routine audits of facilities, work practices, and work-in-progress to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance.
  • Conduct annual safety risk assessment processes to quantify risk exposure and prioritize corrective actions, including oversight of contractor activities.
  • Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ergonomic assessments to reduce exposure to workplace hazards.
  • Oversee and administer contractor safety programs at client sites.
  • Maintain OSHA logs and ensure compliance with all injury and illness recordkeeping requirements.
  • Execute and coordinate required safety training programs in accordance with client expectations and OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure accurate, timely response and documentation related to accidents, incidents, and near-miss events.
  • Provide on-site medical response services, including first aid, emergency treatment, and initial illness care for injured or ill employees.
  • Coordinate local case management activities, including transportation of injured employees to medical facilities and administration of workersโ€™ compensation processes, while protecting company and employee interests.
  • Maintain and update facility safety policies and procedures as part of an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) that meets or exceeds OSHA standards.
  • Communicate safety-related information and lead training programs to educate employees on occupational safety and health principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Champion SCTโ€™s 4Eโ€™s philosophy (Engages, Enlists, Envisions, and Executes) throughout client organizations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of operational standards that support lean principles and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in corporate safety leading indicator programs, including metric tracking and monthly meetings.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable quality, environmental, and safety regulatory requirements; ensure compliance by others when accountable for their work.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, consistent with the needs of the business.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction and/or manufacturing environments supporting environmental, health, and safety operations.
  • Willing to be "on the road" 100% of the time.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable ANSI, NIOSH, ACGIH, and NFPA standards.
  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) required.
  • OSHA 510 certification is preferred
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to move throughout construction and industrial environments, including climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively within normal parameters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license required.
  • SCT is a drug-free workplace.
