Educational and Experience Requirement
Earned MD or DO degree, from a college accredited by the LCME or AOA. Board certification in his or her specialty by a college of either the AOA or ABMS. A record of high quality performance as an educator, evidence of scholarly achievement, and ability in administration at college or university level. Evidence of experience with medical students, clerkships, and/or graduate medical education. Must demonstrate human relations and managerial skills and an understanding of disciplines which comprise the College.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as a critical member of the college's administrative leadership team and participates in university-wide initiatives. Assists the Dean and leadership of the College of Osteopathic Medicine in dealing with the needs of faculty, staff, and students of the College, and providing oversight, evaluation, and direction for college-wide initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
Helps lead and direct the Office of Clinical Integration and builds relationships with potential clinical partners for access to high quality clerkship training and potential residency opportunities. Responsible for expanding the number and scope of clinical rotations and base sites for clinical students. Ensures appropriate on-site and remote interaction between clinical adjunct faculty, student doctors, and the COM campus. Requires travel to clinical base sites as needed to strengthen current relationships with hospital and clinic administrators as well as physicians and will seek to develop new relationships at new sites. Additional duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Integration, the Dean of the College, and other leadership with general administration, curriculum and instruction, accreditation efforts, evaluation and assessment, faculty matters, College organization, internal and external College communication, research activity, student matters, administration of scholarships, fiscal matters, and interacting with other colleges and divisions within the university. Responsible for accreditation documents with attention to those standards that are specific to clinical rotations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
SHSU-COM was created with an expressed mission of promoting primary care in rural and underserved areas. There is a required 'Rural and Underserved Medicine' clerkship and while many of our clinical rotation sites are rural or underserved, there is a need for additional executive leadership to have a real presence in those communities and visit our students in those areas on a regular basis. Significant amount of travel will be required.
Position includes a faculty appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor (non-tenure track). Preference will be given to a primary care physician who could also see patients in the SHSU Physicians clinic.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
