Overview of Position
The Route Operations Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of delivery drivers, route planning, logistics coordination, fleet oversight, and delivery system management. This position ensures efficient and compliant delivery operations through effective leadership, route optimization, driver coaching, and utilization of routing technology. The Route Operations Manager serves as a key liaison between operations, drivers, customers, and participants to ensure exceptional service and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision, scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management of delivery drivers.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize daily delivery routes using company routing software and logistics systems.
  • Monitor route performance, delivery completion rates, on-time delivery metrics, and driver productivity.
  • Ensure all participant information, delivery instructions, route notes, and service exceptions are accurately maintained within company systems.
  • Analyze route data and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and reduce transportation costs.
  • Coordinate route adjustments due to participant additions, cancellations, staffing shortages, weather events, vehicle issues, or other operational challenges.
  • Train drivers on handheld devices, route management software, GPS applications, and delivery documentation procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve route exceptions, missed deliveries, GPS discrepancies, and delivery documentation issues.
  • Learn all delivery routes and perform delivery duties as needed to cover absences, vacations, or staffing shortages.
  • Safely operate company delivery vehicles when required.
  • Oversee fleet cleanliness, vehicle inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor vehicle utilization, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
  • Develop and maintain customer-focused relationships and serve as a liaison between Meals America and customers.
  • Escalate and resolve customer concerns, complaints, and service issues.
  • Assist with warehouse operations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, confidentiality requirements, and delivery documentation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and audit trails for deliveries, route changes, vehicle inspections, and driver assignments.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must meet company driving standards and maintain a valid driver's license
