Job description

Construction Project Manager
Evapco Dry Cooling's high growth and leadership position in the green energy sector offers an outstanding opportunity to individuals seeking an exciting work environment in one of the most important industries for the 21st century. Evapco is an Employee-owned Company that recently started on an expansion program to further strengthen our position as a leading manufacturing and engineering contractor in heat transfer applications worldwide. In keeping with Evapco’s highly successful business philosophy “People make the difference”, we are seeking an experienced, reliable and dynamic person to join our team of high performing professionals in our Bridgewater, NJ office.
1.Basic Job Function
The candidate will be based in the Evapco Dry Cooling (EDC) office, located in Bridgewater, NJ and also travel, as needed, to Construction Sites while reporting to the VP and Director of Construction, providing support to them. The candidate will collaborate with the NJ Project Teams and the Denver BD (Business Development) team and provide direction and management oversight to Evapco’s site teams, subcontractors, and/or Client. They will be the day-to-day point of contact for both our NJ Project Teams, site teams and our client during the bidding, engineering, erection and commissioning of Air-Cooled Condensers (ACC’s) and / or Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers (ACHE’s) across multiple projects. The role requires the assembly of Requests for Quotations (RFQs), review of construction bids, client specifications, Contract requirements, review/comment of erection documents and engineering drawings, assembly of Construction / Commissioning procedures and memos, review of and response to site created RFIs, OS amp;Ds, NCRs, etc. The role also requires that schedule, quality, methods of erection and contractual milestones are all achieved while maintaining safety and environmental concerns, with a thorough understanding of the project documents and the engineering and project management functions. This position requires both domestic and international travel ( gt;30%), and permanent residence at the various project sites is sometimes required (i.e. 3-to-4 week stints, as needed).
2. Required Skills
  • Team player with the discipline to work both in the office collaborating with the NJ and Denver teams, and also remotely and be a ‘self-starter’, commercially savvy with a practical ‘hands-on’ approach and the ability to prioritize tasks according to their urgency.
  • Strong leadership of the EDC Site Teams, business acumen, change savvy, have excellent interpersonal skills while being able to work well with all other stakeholders (e.g. the NJ and Denver EDC team, EDC site team, client, subcontractors, etc.) and the ability to manage difficult personalities and maintain relationships while still achieving project goals.
  • Able to multitask, execute simultaneous assignments on multiple sites and make sound commercial decisions to protect the project budget while working under stressful conditions, sometimes alone, without sacrificing efficiency or quality.
  • Exhibit professionalism, behave ethically, always be detail-orientated and work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Be able to manage and negotiate erection subcontracts, back charges and changes (from both erection subcontractors and clients) in sometimes adversarial situations and protect the company’s interests while maintaining good working relationships with the client and subcontractors.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to compile reports and report site problems in a concise, accurate way to the main office with the use of photos, written reports, hand drawn sketches, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of the ASME, B31.1, AWS, AISC and OSHA codes.
  • Dedication to quality control and quality assurance processes related to construction, punch lists, commissioning, maintenance and warranty work.
  • Ability to understand and accurately interpret erection bids, project contracts, specifications, codes, documentation and drawings.
  • Proficient level knowledge and experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
3.Education amp; Experience
  • BS in Construction or related subject is preferred, but experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 10+ years’ experience in Supervisory and Construction Management roles related to power plant construction and heavy industry. Previous roles as Field Engineer and / or superintendent preferred with experience in planning / oversight of structural steel erection (iron workers), ducting / stack field fabrication (boilermakers), or rotating equipment (millwrights).
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA, LOTO procedures, etc.
4. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Help prepare and / or review all project documentation related to construction and commissioning while ensuring all client specifications and applicable codes are met.
  • Manage, from the New Jersey office, the EDC project jobsite offices and EDC jobsite personnel (TFAs, Site Supervisors, Construction Managers, etc.). Ensure implementation of and compliance with all relevant site procedures and ensure that all documentation is up to date, such as weekly reports, schedules, meeting minutes, site submittal matrix, Extra Work List (EWL), time sheets, etc.
  • Communicate with all project stakeholders such as the erection contractors, commissioning groups, clients, owner, suppliers, and the NJ based project management team regarding all site matters.
  • Attend client and subcontractor meetings and create accurate meeting minutes with action items.
  • Oversee cold and hot commissioning of pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, instrumentation, piping, valves, vacuum equipment, overall plant startup, etc., assist in planning and coordination of this work with all stakeholders and help ensure the accuracy and completion of project documents.
  • Perform scheduled and routine site inspections; provide erection service support and coverage, provide warranty follow up, etc., oversee execution and completion of punch lists and produce written reports as required.
  • Review and manage schedules to ensure the project is delivered on time.
  • Manage and file all site documentation such as subcontractor’s reports, ITPs, NCRs, RFIs, drawings, photos, letters, etc.
  • Write detailed internal weekly and monthly reports to cover progress, notable milestones, deliveries, safety, weather, discussions, meetings, status of RFIs/NCRs/OS amp;Ds, etc.
  • The writing of detailed memos, work instructions, letters, change orders and other project documents as required.
  • Propose and draft answers to RFIs, NCRs, and OS amp;Ds, change orders, back charges that ensure quality of work without negatively affecting the bottom-line.
  • Review and administer subcontractor and client contracts.
  • Review client specifications and project documents.
  • Review and comment on erection and engineering documents/drawings.
  • Provide training, mentoring, direction and guidance to all clients, owners, field and company staff as required, having multiple personnel from the construction and commissioning teams reporting to you from various sites.
  • Review resumes, hire and train prospective employees.
  • Support the EDC Denver-based sales team and provide prospective clients with presentations on constructability, value engineering, etc.
  • Make site inspections to monitor overall progress, quality of work and compliance with specifications. (When on a project jobsite, approximate time in jobsite office 25%, field presence 75%).
  • Work in both an office and site environment with varying degrees of noise, outdoors in all weathers, able to lift up to 50 pounds, stooping, bending, climb ladders and scaffold, work at heights, and confined space entry when needed.
