Join our Automotive OpenGMSL Team as a Staff Design Evaluation Engineer! We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and passionate engineer to lead lab characterization and validation of cutting-edge products for Automotive SerDes applications.

OpenGMSL (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link) is the leading highspeed invehicle serial link technology in the automotive industry. It enables safe and secure transport of video and data while significantly reducing the cost, weight, and complexity of vehicle cable harnesses. Our extensive portfolio of products is in full production, with millions of vehicles worldwide relying on it daily. OpenGMSL offers cost-effective video and data transport and bridging for various applications, including basic information displays and rearview cameras in mass-market vehicles, safety-critical cameras in autonomous vehicles, and high-resolution touch screens in high-end vehicles. Beyond automotive, OpenGMSL solutions are widely used in industrial and medical systems as well as in growing robotics applications.

The position is based in Beaverton, Oregon.

Responsibilities:

  • Design Validation Ownership: Work directly with design engineers and system architects to develop validation plans for new products, covering functional, performance, margin, and robustness requirements.
  • Lab Evaluation & Characterization: Execute validation plans through handson laboratory testing, including silicon bringup, characterization, debug, and corner analysis of highspeed SerDes products.
  • Test Hardware & Software Development: Design and develop evaluation hardware (boards, fixtures, adapters) and software (scripts, automation frameworks, embedded firmware) required to enable efficient and repeatable testing.
  • Debug & RootCause Analysis: Lead or contribute to functional, performance, and systemlevel debug of new IP and products, spanning digital, analog, mixedsignal, firmware, and system interfaces.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze large and complex data sets, summarize results clearly, and communicate findings and recommendations to cross-functional team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: BSEE or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience, or MSEE with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Silicon BringUp & Lab Validation Experience: Proven experience executing silicon bringup, validation, and characterization of ICs in a laboratory environment.
  • Test Hardware Development: Experience designing characterization hardware infrastructure, including evaluation boards, fixtures, and de-embedding structures.
  • Test Software & Automation Development: Experience developing software and automation infrastructure for lab validation using scripting or programming languages such as Python, C/C++/C#, or similar.
  • Hardware Debug & Measurement Skills: Strong handson capability with lab instrumentation such as highspeed oscilloscopes, VNAs, BERTs, logic analyzers, signal/spectrum analyzers, and power measurement equipment.
  • SerDes & Communications Expertise: Solid understanding of highspeed digital interfaces, SerDes fundamentals, clocking, jitter, signal integrity, power integrity, and mixedsignal system behavior.
  • Debug & RootCause Analysis: Demonstrated ability to independently debug functional, performance, and systemlevel issues and drive issues to root cause with design teams.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document results, present findings, and work effectively in a crossfunctional design environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SerDes Standards and Protocols: Handson experience with highspeed interfaces and protocols such SerDes, Ethernet, PCIe, USB, DisplayPort, CSI/DSI, or HDMI.
  • CrossSite or MultiEngineer Coordination: Experience coordinating validation efforts across multiple engineers, labs, or development sites.
  • Team Leadership:Experience leading projects or taking on technical ownership within a validation or lab environment.
