Location: Novi, MI

Pay: $25-26/hr

The Prototype Robot Technician is responsible for programming, operating, and troubleshooting robotic welding equipment to support prototype exhaust system development. This role works closely with engineering to fabricate prototype components, optimize welding processes, and ensure products meet quality and customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Program, operate, and troubleshoot robotic welding systems (Motoman and/or Siemens).
  • Build and fabricate prototype exhaust systems using robotic and manual MIG/TIG welding.
  • Read blueprints and engineering drawings to fabricate and assemble prototype components.
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, roll formers, and shears.
  • Develop and adjust robot programs and welding parameters to improve quality and reduce scrap.
  • Perform product inspections and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with tooling, fixtures, material flow, changeovers, and preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineers on prototype builds, testing, and benchmarking.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Welding certificate from a technical or vocational school.
  • 2+ years of robotic programming experience using Motoman and/or Siemens software.
  • 5+ years of prototype fabrication or metal fabrication experience.
  • Experience with MIG/TIG welding, robotic welding, and blueprint reading.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
