Job description
SUMMARY
The Robotics Repair Technician is responsible for repairing, configuring, programming, testing, and maintaining robotic systems, including Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and related automation equipment and components. This role supports engineering, manufacturing, and customer service activities and ensures robotic systems meet operational, safety, and quality standards.
This is a multi-level position with increasing levels of responsibility, technical complexity, and independence based on experience, education, and demonstrated competency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams in testing, repair, integration, and operational readiness of robotic systems
- Perform repair, maintenance, calibration, and refurbishment of robots, AMRs, and subsystems
- Program, configure, and reconfigure robotic systems including navigation, sensors, safety systems, and control software
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using diagnostic tools and systematic analysis assembly, align, and install mechanical, electrical, and electronic components using hand and power tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Inspect components and systems for defects, damage, or nonconformance
- Test and validate system performance using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic equipment
- Document repair activities, test results, and findings in technical reports
- Support field service activities, including installations, commissioning, and customer support (Level II–III increasing responsibility)
- Provide technical communication between engineering teams and customers (primarily Level II–III)
- Assist with or lead technical training for operators and customers (Level II–III)
- Execute refurbishment programs following established quality and process standards
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives (Level III leads)
- Follow all safety procedures and quality management system requirements
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technician I & II: None
Technician III: May provide technical guidance, mentorship, and informal leadership to junior technicians
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Technician I
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electronics, or related field preferred
- 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships/co-ops applicable)
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems
Technician II
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience in robotics, automation, electronics repair, or industrial equipment maintenance
- Proficient in interpreting schematics, troubleshooting systems, and using diagnostic tools
Technician III
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required (advanced certifications a plus)
- 10+ years of experience in robotics, automation, or complex system repair
- Advanced troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and software domains
- Experience leading projects, mentoring technicians, or supporting customers directly
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical, quality, and safety documentation. Ability to write clear technical reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation. Ability to effectively communicate technical information and respond to questions from engineers, managers, customers, and service personnel.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical technical problems and work effectively in situations with limited standardization. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze diagnostic data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form while managing multiple abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is primarily located in a warehouse/repair department environment. The employee may periodically work in assembly and shipping areas and may experience temperature variations due to open doors. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
