Job description

Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Gear Design Engineer to own the design, analysis, and production of high-performance gear systems for our robotic platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in gear mechanism design-including planetary, harmonic, cycloidal, and custom gear trains-and a proven ability to manage external gear vendors and contract design partners. This candidate must combine strong analytical skills with hands-on experience bringing precision gear systems from concept through volume manufacturing, and thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field
- Experience in gear mechanism design and analysis for robotics, automation, or precision machinery
- Experience managing external vendors and co-design partnerships for gear components
- Experience with gear design software (KISSsoft, MASTA, ROMAX, or equivalent)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on gear/power transmission systems
- Experience designing compact, high-torque-density gear trains for robotics or aerospace applications
- Familiarity with AGMA/ISO gear standards and rating methods
