Job description

Position Summary: Primary responsibility of the position is to ensure that the Roast Plant produces the highest quality of roasted coffee for Kauai Coffee’s distribution centers.

Primary Functions:

  • Follow established guidelines, procedures, policies, practices and methods necessary to maximize coffee quality and food safety standards.
  • Operate production equipment including the roaster, grinder, flavor mixer and packaging machines to meet scheduling requirements by established work standards.
  • Ensure all required documents and daily checklist related to equipment operation (required at the beginning, during and end of shift) are completed.
  • Maintain accurate records of what types and amounts of coffee are used for daily production.
  • Monitor key process control points throughout the entire shift.
  • Perform numerous visual checks on products as they move through the packaging line to ensure all weights, seals, UPC codes, dates, and other packaging set up and details are correct.
  • Retrieve coffee samples from the packaging line for every product being produced for QA testing.
  • Prepare/participate in Food Safety Audit
  • Work with the QA team to ensure the product meets quality standards.
  • Ensure equipment in the area assigned is in working order and that working conditions are safe.
  • Responsible for packaging line change-over and setting of machine parameters for each product line.
  • Work with roast plant workers on scheduled flavoring days.
  • Program the packaging machine for items to be produced, using touch screen, based on information listed on the manufacturing specification sheet.
  • Complete all preventative maintenance work on equipment.
  • Performs emergency repairs on lines as needed to ensure target line efficiencies are attained.
  • Report on any jobs that work orders need to be placed.
  • Follow established housekeeping SOP’s to ensure Food Safety Standards are implemented.
  • Verify daily production numbers with the verification team at the end of the day.
  • Support Away from Home Program and customers as necessary
  • Complies with all Federal, State, Local and Company safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Comply with all Company Rules and Company Policies.

Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Previous coffee roasting, packaging and flavoring experience required.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and taking instructions in the English language.
  • Competent in basic mathematics and possess basic computer skills.
  • Must possess technical aptitude.
  • 1-year minimum experience in mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Able to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Requires standing, climbing, bending, and lifting for long periods of time.
  • Must be capable of lifting 100-lb. coffee bags utilizing team lift.
  • Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license and forklift operator’s license. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
