IU North Labor and Delivery consists of 12 Labor and Delivery rooms, 4 antepartum beds, 2 OR suites/triages, and 5 PACU bays. We are a level 3 LDR and see many high-risk patients. On this unit, we have an anesthesiologist and OB laborist on-site 24/7. Our patients are with us during their pregnancy, labor and delivery, and through the initial recovery period.

Shifts:
  • Part Time; Nightshift; every 3rd weekend, holiday rotation.
Nursing skills gained on this unit:
  • Circulating in OB procedures in the OB OR
  • Triage of OB patients
  • Managing each phase of the pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum process
  • Collaborative work with physicians
Unit Successes/Designations:
  • AIM/Inspire Designation
  • Anthem Blue Distinction
  • Level 3 care

Qualifications
  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
    • Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
