Your Impact:ย 

Are you interested in supporting the social-emotional health and wellness of campers atย our outdoor campsย in Hingham, MAย this summer?ย Would you like to work with camp staff to help make every amazing camp week a success for all campers?ย 

Surrounded by acres of woodland habitat, Weir River Farm is home to chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, andย more! Ourย 40ย campers ages 5-14 are outdoors all week, including daily visits to the barnyard handling and caring for our animals. Campers learn gardening skills by weeding and harvesting in the Children's Garden. Hiking adventures lead to discoveries in forest and field habitats. Each day's lessons, games, crafts, andย activities are designed toinstill the importance of nature and agriculture in our daily lives.ย 

World's End'sย 30ย campers aged 5-10 spend each day exploring the rocky shores, beaches, salt marsh, rolling hills, and woodlands of this unique 400-acre peninsula habitat in Hingham, MA. They discover the plants, animals, sea life, and minerals that call this place home - and learn about the delicate balance that supports all living things. Creative projects, active games, friendship building, and fun are also part of every camp day.ย

The Role:ย 

Asย a Seasonalย Camper Support Specialist (CSS), you have a deep understanding of behavioral modification and child development and will valueย experiential,ย place-based education. You will be excited to share your knowledge to help prepare staff, camp spaces,ย caregivers, and campers for a successful camp experience.ย 

During training weeks (June 9-20), the CSS meets with Camp Directors, reviews camper profiles, and develops a 2-hour on-site workshop for theย WRF and WEย camp teams. During camp (June 23-Augustย 15), they will work onsite atย WRF and WEย for up to 5 hours per day on Mondays and Tuesdays toย observeย campers in their daily activities.ย Wednesdaysย through Fridays, they will be available remotely for review of camper records, parent communications, remote consultation, and onsite work if needed.Total hours per weekย isย estimated at 12-15.ย ย 

Specifically,ย you'll:ย 

  • Assistย in setting up indoor and outdoor activity and quiet spaces that allows all campers to flourish at campย 
  • Lead a staff training as it relates to understanding and supporting campers with a range of needsย ย ย 
  • Review camper records and documents (IEPs, Behavior Plans, etc.) prior to attendanceย 
  • Communicate with caregivers as necessarybefore or during camp to set up campers for successย 
  • Take lead in coordinating and implementing strategy plans for campers who wouldย benefitย from accommodations and modificationsย ย 
  • Support Instructors and Junior Instructors (ages 15-18) with camper accommodations and modificationsย ย 
  • Ensure proper completion and documentation of administrative duties as they relate to camper accommodations and modificationsย 

This is aย seasonal, non-exemptย positionย workingย 12-15 hours/weekย reporting directly toย the South Shoreย School and Youth Programs Manager/Camp Director.ย ย 

Requirements

What You'll Need:

Skills and Experience:ย 

  • A master's degreeor equivalent experience in social work, education, child development, or other relevantย courseย of study.ย 
  • Proven expertise in the areas of trauma-informed practices, neurodiversity, behavior modification, and special education.ย ย 
  • Creative, passionate, open-minded, and knowledgeable in a broad range of behavioral, social, and developmental needs of campers and their caregivers.ย ย 
  • Effective documenter of camper behavior and ability to share observations and ideasย toย caregivers and camp staff.ย 
  • Adept at reading IEPs and other camper documents and providing insight and direction to best support campers.ย 
  • Experience working with children with diverse needs, abilities, and interests.ย 
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with strong interpersonal skills: helpful, calm, friendly demeanor.ย 

Eligibility Criteria:ย 

  • Must be at least 21 years oldย 
  • Availability for camp staff training weeks (Juneย 8-19) and all eight weeks of camp (Juneย 22-August 14), Mondays-Fridaysย 
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification (provided, if necessary)ย 
  • Able to lift 40 poundsย 
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employmentย 
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) checkย
