Job description

Overview

The Director of DevOps leads Origami Risk's DevOps and Cloud Operations strategy, driving the reliability, scalability, and security of our SaaS platform. This leader builds and develops a high-performing team, modernizes the software delivery lifecycle, and champions AI-powered tooling to accelerate engineering velocity across networking, infrastructure security, and platform operations.

Starting base pay for this role is between $175,000 and $222,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, training, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will be eligible for a bonus as well as competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, wellness reimbursement, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match. We offer vacation and sick leave benefits (under a flexible time off policy in most states).

Responsibilities
  • DevOps Strategy and Execution:
    • Defines and implements an enterprise-wide DevOps strategy aligned with business objectives and technology roadmap, specifically focusing on Microsoft applications on AWS with containers and EKS.
    • Drives the adoption of DevOps principles and practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as code, continuous monitoring, etc.) across the platform.
    • Establishes and maintains high standards for security, compliance, and governance within the DevOps environment.
    • Stays up to date on the latest trends and best practices in DevOps, cloud technologies, containerization, and Microsoft application development.
    • Champions the adoption of AI-powered developer and operations tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, AIOps, intelligent observability) to automate routine work and accelerate engineering velocity across the platform.
  • Team Leadership and Management:
    • Builds and leads a high-performing DevOps team with expertise in Microsoft technologies, AWS cloud infrastructure, containers, and EKS services.
    • Contributes to the development of the budget and monitors expenses.
    • Fosters a collaborative, inclusive, and high-growth environment within the team.
    • Develops and mentors team members, providing opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
    • Defines clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews for team members.

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Possesses in-depth understanding of cloud based hosted applications, deployment, and management tools (e.g., Cursor, VS Code, Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, .NET, SQL Server).
    • Designs, implements, and manages CI/CD pipelines for .NET applications running on AWS, utilizing containers and EKS services.
    • Utilizes expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, CloudFormation, EKS) and best practices for deploying and managing containerized Microsoft applications.
    • Possesses a strong understanding of SQL and unstructured databases (e.g., NoSQL) and their integration within the DevOps pipeline.
    • Applies knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and experience with EKS management.
    • Possesses a strong understanding of security principles and best practices for securing applications, infrastructure, and databases in the cloud.
    • Evaluates, integrates, and operationalizes AI-driven capabilities across CI/CD, infrastructure automation, incident response, and security workflows to improve speed, quality, and reliability.
  • Cloud Operations:
    • Oversees day-to-day cloud operations across AWS environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency of the SaaS platform.
    • Establishes and enforces operational standards for monitoring, alerting, incident response, and on-call rotations to meet defined SLAs and SLOs.
    • Drives capacity planning, resource optimization, and FinOps practices to manage cloud spend while supporting business growth.
    • Leads root cause analysis and post-incident reviews, implementing corrective actions and continuous improvements to operational reliability.
    • Partners with Engineering and Support teams to streamline release management, change management, and production readiness processes.
  • Networking:
    • Designs, implements, and maintains scalable, secure, and resilient cloud network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, transit gateways, peering, and hybrid connectivity.
    • Oversees configuration and management of load balancers, DNS, CDN, VPN, and direct-connect solutions to support multi-region SaaS workloads.
    • Defines network segmentation, routing, and traffic management strategies to optimize performance and minimize attack surface.
    • Ensures network observability through comprehensive logging, flow monitoring, and performance analytics to rapidly detect and remediate issues.
    • Collaborates with Security and Engineering teams to align network design with zero-trust principles and compliance requirements.
  • Infrastructure Security:
    • Embeds security into all layers of the infrastructure, including compute, containers (EKS), networking, storage, and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Implements and maintains identity and access management (IAM), secrets management, key management, and least-privilege access controls across cloud environments.
    • Establishes vulnerability management, patching, and hardening programs for cloud infrastructure, container images, and underlying operating systems.
    • Ensures infrastructure controls align with NIST 800-53, ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2, and other applicable regulatory frameworks, and supports related audits.
    • Partners with the Security team to define and operationalize threat detection, incident response, and disaster recovery capabilities for the platform.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Partners effectively with Development, Security, and other Engineering teams to ensure seamless collaboration and efficient delivery.
    • Communicates complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Advocates for DevOps within the organization, influencing stakeholders and driving adoption of DevOps practices.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps management, with a strong focus on multi-tenant platform running on AWS infrastructure.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading and building high-performing DevOps teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and monitoring tools for hosted applications on AWS, utilizing containers and EKS services.
  • Ability to liaise with our Engineering team and lead our release management practices.
  • Experience with SQL and unstructured databases and their integration within DevOps workflows.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and hands-on experience with EKS management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate vision into actionable plans.
