ABOUT THE TEAM

The Retail Operations Manager reports to the Director of Retail and partners closely with field leadership and cross-functional teams including Finance, Global Operations, IT, HR, Supply Chain, Merchandising, and Marketing. This role supports a multi-unit retail and outlet organization and is primarily office-based with regular travel to stores.

YOUR IMPACT

The Retail Operations Manager plays a critical role in translating company strategy into disciplined, scalable store operations. By ensuring financial controls, systems integrity, inventory accuracy, and consistent execution across all locations, this role directly impacts sales performance, profitability, risk mitigation, and the customer experience.

WHAT YOUโ€™LL OWN

  • Lead day-to-day operational oversight of retail and outlet store operations, ensuring consistent execution of policies, procedures, and brand standards.
  • Translate strategic initiatives into clear, executable operational plans for store teams.
  • Drive achievement of sales, profitability, and productivity targets across the store fleet.
  • Lead the annual store operations budget process and manage ongoing ownership of controllable expenses, including:
    • Maintenance and repairs
    • Maintenance contracts
    • Store supplies
    • Subscriptions
    • Freight In (inbound shipping)
    • Freight Out (outbound shipping, transfers, returns)
    • Shrink (budgeted targets and mitigation strategies)
  • Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions in partnership with Finance.
  • Support sales audit processes, investigate discrepancies, and resolve variances.
  • Oversee commissions and bonus administration aligned with incentive programs.
  • Lead banking and cash management processes, ensuring strong controls across cash handling, pickup services, and the investigation of variances and chargebacks.
  • Partner with Finance to manage expense and vendor payment workflows, including approvals, reporting, and oversight of vendor payables.
  • Build, motivate, and lead high-performing field teams through clear expectations, coaching, and accountability.
  • Support payroll management processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
  • Oversee POS and store technology operations, partnering with IT to support system functionality, upgrades, and issue resolution.
  • Manage operational tools and analytics including ShopperTrak and traffic counter systems.
  • Partner with Loss Prevention to manage shrink initiatives, incident reporting, camera reviews, and operational audits.
  • Support physical inventory execution, cycle counts, reconciliation efforts, and resolution of unreceived ASNs.
  • Manage store supply programs, UPS and shipping processes, and maintenance coordination.
  • Lead operational planning and execution for new store openings.
  • Develop clear and effective communications to stores regarding operational updates, priorities, and expectations.

WHAT WEโ€™RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Retail Management, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 5โ€“10 years of progressive retail operations experience with multi-unit leadership required; multi-state experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operating budgets and financial controls in a multi-unit retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge of retail systems, POS platforms, payroll processes, banking, and inventory management.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized with a strong sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Office Environment:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • The Retail Operations Manager is expected to be in the Fairhaven, MA corporate office three days per week. Residence in the Fairhaven, Massachusetts area is preferred.
  • Hybrid work schedule.

Retail Environment (as applicable):

  • This hybrid role supports a multi-unit Retail and Outlet organization and includes regular travel to store locations.
  • Must be able to stand and move for extended periods during store visits.
  • Role involves walking, communicating, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
