Job description

Description
We are actively seeking for Research scholar to join the Herrera lab in the department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester. Our research group studies tissue engineering of multicellular systems with a special focus on mechanobiology. The research scholar will participate in research projects aimed to study how mechanical regulations influence tissue formation during development using cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology, optogenetics, microscopy and imaging in bacteria, fruit-flies and mammalian cells systems. The candidate will be responsible for setting up experimental procedures and protocols and will also participate in regular meetings with the PI and other lab members.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop optogenetic tools to manipulate protein activity and gene transcription.
  • Utilize molecular biology approaches working with DNA.
  • Generate vectors for gene insertion and editing
  • Perform cell culture (mammalian cell lines, stem cells)
  • Learn and perform various imaging techniques including confocal microscopy and image analyses of time-lapse image sequences.
  • Contribute to general lab organization including accurate documentation and recording/maintenance of large data files.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have BSc and a MSc with strong background in molecular biology and gene editing, microbiology and cell culture.
  • Hands-on experience (at least one year) in wet-research lab with projects involving molecular biology.
  • Ability to develop research ideas and projects with a translational focus.
  • Interest in understanding the biological fundamental of tissue formation during development.
  • Ability to follow instruction with an eagerness to learn and grow professionally.
  • The candidate is requested to have a record of scientific publications in a peer-reviewed journals.
