Position Summary
The Research & Development (Engineering) intern will assist the Engineering team as assigned in efforts that support either development, testing or administrative needs associated with current projects in the Vascular and Emergency Medicine business unit. This internship will report to a manager in the R&D team, but will work with members of sustaining, product development, and cross functional partners as assigned. Project work will be under close supervision and may be done under non-disclosure agreement.
Principal Responsibilities
• Under direction of the R&D Engineering team, perform R&D assigned functions to support the Vascular and Emergency Medicine Business Unit.
• Apply engineering techniques to update specifications, create drawings, and draft protocols.
• Conduct lab feasibility testing and verification testing on vascular and emergency medicine products.
• Develop test methods and fixtures for a wide range of potential testing.
• Conduct literature reviews and deep dive searches in technical areas of interest and maintain organization of these searches and documents.
• Represent R&D engineering as a team member on design control projects for product development.
• Work with a diverse team of quality, regulatory, marketing, procurement, manufacturing and others both domestically and globally.
• Write reports and create presentations on work completed.
• Present data and reports at management meetings.
• Assist in the research, development, and design of next generation and new vascular and emergency medicine products.
• Understand and assist other team members in data analysis, accounts, clinical education opportunities, etc.
• Demonstrate professional responsibilities by cooperating with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and departmental goals and objectives.
• Maintain compliance with principles of accepted employee conduct as identified in the Teleflex Code of Ethics and as specified in departmental policies and procedures.
Education / Experience Requirements
• Currently enrolled and pursuing or achieved a two/four-year degree in mechanical, biomedical, or any related engineering field.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• One year of medical device or other related design experience is a major plus.
• Valid Driver's License.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Some 3D CAD experience - SolidWorks preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, team player and ability to communicate effectively.
• One year of medical device or other related design experience a plus.
• Injection molding, plastic extrusion and plastic part assembly process and methods preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and analytical (data, particularly via use of Excel).
• Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
• Organize, evaluate, and coordinate engineering studies with professional, technical, and clerical staff of a product evaluation department.
• Analyze complex, technical and administrative problems and adopt an effective course of action.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Prepare clear and concise statements and reports.
• Demonstrate professional responsibilities by cooperating with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations.
• Willingness to learn about Teleflex Inc. products, medical device industry and working in a FDA regulated industry.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $23-25 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
