Job description

Overview
At Urban Practice, we are dedicated to providing seamless, integrated architectural services to build communities that lift lives. We work closely with development, construction and management teams dedicated to excellence in housing. We are a new firm- small but growing- and we care about what we do.
Project Architect specializing in multifamily rehabilitation and renovation projects, serving as technical lead from concept through completion. Ensures design integrity, regulatory compliance, and constructability within existing structures while bridging client vision with technical execution. Manages design development, consultant coordination, code compliance, budgets, schedules, and quality control to deliver functional, aesthetic, and compliant renovations. This role aligns with a future project management trajectory, coordinating multidisciplinary efforts, preparing strategic plans, and serving as the primary client liaison to ensure effective project execution.
Responsibilities
1. Design Leadership & Documentation: Develop and refine renovation plans, integrating existing conditions with new design solutions. Produce detailed construction documents and coordinate specifications using BIM software.
2. Technical Expertise: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of life safety, egress, accessibility (ADA), energy codes. Apply an understanding of how existing conditions impact new design and code compliance.
3. Building Condition Audits: Expertise in existing condition assessment through 3rd party physical needs condition assessment reporting coordination, and integrating modern systems within existing framework. Assess existing structures, identify issues, documenting conditions, interpret existing drawings, and apply sensitive renovation techniques.
4. Management Skills: Apply strong problem-solving skills to address existing-condition challenges and construction issues. Communicate effectively with clients, engineers, contractors, and consultants. Provide project oversight and mentor less experienced team members. May serve as a team lead in the absence of a project manager.
5. Construction Administration: Manage RFIs, review submittals, and conduct site visits to resolve field issues that arise during demolition and renovation phases.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
Five or more years of experience in an architectural firm. Certification as a registered architect is a plus.
Required Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in BIM (ArchiCAD a major plus). Strong portfolio with successful multi-family renovation projects.
Working Conditions:
