Job Description


This role typically leads a team of 1-5 FTEs in the pursuit of consistent and effective financial and commercial oversight to a portfolio of remote operating sites governed by unique commercial agreements and varying customers. This includes validation of month-end close, profit and loss analysis, balance sheet approvals, forecast and budget review, and identifying effective ad hoc financial analysis to control expenses and aid in the improvement of financial performance. This position collaborates with their team, including direct reports, operational sites and several functional departments to ensure the success of their portfolio in coordination with the larger Business Unit.

Responsibilities

Financial Oversight

  • Review month-end close for all sites within their remits
  • Validate the development of monthly forecasts and annual budgets for assigned sites; approve site submissions and provide feedback
  • Effectively communicate significant variances in performance against budget and forecast to senior leadership.
  • Facilitate lessons learned discussions and document conclusions to leverage across portfolio
  • Oversee the training and development of site managers in sound commercial and financial processes.
  • Manage the process/team that reviews working capital position, develop processes to effectively monitor customer financial condition
  • Develop and confirm site targets in support of the business unit annual budget
  • Present the monthly management reporting, including the trading document, corporate consolidation reporting, new business reporting, corporate commentary, to senior leadership
  • Validate accounting controls and policies are applied appropriately
  • Certify balance sheet reconciliations

Commercial Support

  • Collaborates with Business Development and Operations teams in the development of commercial proposals
  • Ensures competitive pricing scenarios are provided to pursuit team, considering capital investment and financial hurdles, through management of team/process
  • Manage the approval process for all contract renewals and new business awards
  • Actively influence ongoing decisions regarding site financial and commercial risks
  • Finalize recommendations on capital expenditures for new business including financing method (buy vs. lease)
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Real Estate, Contract Administration and Operating teams to ensure that commercial and financial risks and exposures are highlighted

Operational Support

  • Drive site start-ups for billing, labor tracking, capex approval, start-up spend and operational site budgets
  • Monitor progress of profit improvement plans for underperforming sites and determine next steps and recommendations to senior leaders
  • Implement identified opportunities for improvement of site financial performance and over portfolio

People Management

  • Provide daily direction to team to effectively oversee a portfolio of remote sites governed by unique commercial agreements
  • Ability to influence and align operations and function support teams towards a goal of financial and commercial success
  • Build and maintain a positive relationship with your internal and external team
  • Serve as an interface between site operations and other functional teams to ensure effective operational and commercial support


Required Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance or accounting OR equivalent four years work experience, required
  • Master's degree and/or CP, preferred
  • 7+ years of work experience within the finance or accounting industry, required
  • Logistics industry experience, preferred
  • Public accounting experience, preferred
  • Ability to deal with complex commercial issues, required
  • Advanced analytical skills; draw conclusions and make actionable recommendations, required
