Westlake Village, CA • Remote

$42 - $46/hr

Contractor

Job description

OVERVIEW

We are partnering with a leading enterprise specialty retailer headquartered in Southern California, operating 300+ retail locations nationwide along with multiple distribution centers, a contact center, and a distributed remote workforce. Our client is in the middle of a Hardware Refresh and Platform Modernization program — exiting VMware where practical and standing up a greenfield Nutanix AHV platform on HPE hardware, with Pure Storage retained as the external storage backend.

In this role, you will augment the Senior and Principal Infrastructure Engineers leading the program during the initial build, validation, and early migration window. You will take direction from senior staff, document the work, and execute day-to-day tasks across the existing VMware environment, the new Nutanix platform, and the underlying Pure Storage layer. This is a hands-on, mid-level role — not a principal architect position. The right candidate is comfortable working from runbooks, moves quickly, communicates clearly, and documents as they go.

  • Employment Type: Short-Term Contract (2 Months) -
  • Location: Remote
  • Working Hours: Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PT
  • Experience Level: Mid-Level (3–6 years)
  • Compensation: $42/hr - $46/hr DOE
RESPONSIBILITIES

VMware Environment Maintenance

  • Perform basic VM administration, snapshot management, and discovery and inventory across the existing VMware and vCenter footprint.
  • Execute migration readiness cleanup activities to prepare workloads for transition.

Nutanix Platform Build and Validation

  • Provide hands-on support for the new Nutanix AHV and Prism platform on HPE hardware, including build validation activities.
  • Support migration preparation using Nutanix Move where applicable.

Pure Storage Support

  • Support day-to-day FlashArray operations, including storage presentation, volume and layout validation, and performance checks.
  • Manage protection group and rollback considerations and troubleshoot storage-related issues.

Migration Wave Execution

  • Classify workloads for migration and prepare runbooks under senior engineer direction.
  • Coordinate cutover tasks, validate post-migration access and monitoring, and track exceptions that remain on VMware.

Infrastructure Coordination

  • Execute dependency items that commonly slow migrations down, including DNS and IPAM updates, VLAN, routing, and firewall dependency validation.
  • Produce clean handoff notes between teams.

Documentation and Change Discipline

  • Document procedures, configurations, and operational updates as work is performed.
  • Follow ticket and change control processes consistently.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise virtualization and/or storage environments in production.
  • Working knowledge of VMware vSphere and vCenter, with experience administering clustered environments and performing routine VM operations.
  • Hands-on exposure to Pure Storage FlashArray, including volume presentation, protection groups, alerts, and basic performance checks.
  • Comfortable with Windows Server and Linux VM operations in a virtualized environment.
  • Ticket and change control discipline, with the ability to work from runbooks under senior engineer direction.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with a habit of documenting work as it is performed.
  • Ability to work remotely on Pacific Time, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Preferred

  • Hands-on Nutanix AHV, Prism, and Nutanix Move experience. Strong VMware and Pure Storage candidates who can ramp quickly on Nutanix will also be considered.
  • PowerCLI scripting for VMware automation and reporting.
  • Exposure to HPE server hardware in an enterprise data center context.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure migration programs, particularly VMware-to-Nutanix or similar platform transitions.
  • Familiarity with DNS, IPAM, VLAN configuration, and firewall dependency mapping in support of migration work.
  • Experience in multi-site retail, distribution, or other geographically distributed enterprise environments.
