Sleep Medicine Physician

Remote (Nationwide) — Priority Licensure: FL, MA, NY, NC, OH, LA, NM, OK, TX, AZ, CA  |  Full-Time (1.3 FTEE)  |  Virtual Clinic Hours, 6am–6pm Local Time

We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Sleep Medicine Physician to provide virtual sleep medicine care to Veterans nationwide in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP). This is a 100% remote position — you work from your own private, secure home workspace, with all necessary equipment provided. The VA currently faces a shortage of Sleep Medicine Physicians, creating delays in the assessment and treatment of Veterans with sleep disorders. In this role, you will evaluate and manage sleep disorders and related conditions, interpret sleep studies, and deliver care that meets or exceeds the standards of the American Board of Medical Specialties — entirely through synchronous telehealth and asynchronous review. You will be administratively onboarded through the Greater Los Angeles VA Health Care System and assigned to support VA facilities based on the state(s) where you hold an active medical license — physicians with multiple state licenses are especially well positioned for this role.

• Complete new patient and established patient evaluation and management (E/M) visits via synchronous telehealth, including telephone care when appropriate — new patients within 60 minutes, follow-ups within 30 minutes.
• Complete electronic consultations (e-consults), reviewing medical records and providing medical decision-making documentation.
• Determine clinically indicated sleep testing and select the most appropriate test for the clinical indication.
• Review raw sleep study data and interpret results within 7 calendar days of the study being received or the asynchronous telesleep order being placed; communicate results to the referring provider and Veteran within 14 days.
• Complete remote physiologic/therapeutic monitoring of CPAP and related devices, with appropriate documentation and billing for each episode of care.
• Communicate with patients as needed through secure messaging.
• Complete chart reviews in support of a national patient-safety initiative using Somnoware, including reviewing sleep study results, updating study status, and maintaining audit/tracking records.
• Document all patient interactions directly in the electronic health record, completed within the timeframe mandated by the patient's VA facility (typically within 24 hours).
• Complete mandatory setting-specific suicide screening for new patients and sleepiness/insomnia questionnaires where clinically relevant.
• Coordinate care and communicate with referring VA providers regarding testing, follow-up, and management.
• Participate in required quality-improvement meetings and weekly team huddles.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS); current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia — multi-state licensure strongly preferred (expands assignable Veteran population and billable hours).
• No history of a license that was restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied upon application, in any state.
• National Provider Identifier (NPI); current DEA registration where applicable.
• Comfortable with computerized medical record systems, televideo evaluations, and Windows-based programs; adequate typing skills for real-time documentation.
• Prior VA experience navigating VistA and/or Oracle Health electronic health records, VA's Somnoware instance for sleep testing, and virtual care platforms is preferred.
• Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

$205–$231/hour, depending on experience and certifications.
