Job description

Compensation Range:
: $16.90 - $16.90
Position Summary
The Veteran Education Benefits Assistant supports National University's (NU) School Certifying Official (SCO) team in providing accurate and timely assistance to students using Veterans Education Benefits. They will work closely with SCO team leadership to identify military-affiliated student needs and participate in campus initiatives that support Veteran Services (e.g., Veteran Center Food Pantry). The VEB Assistant will attend webinars, student orientations, and on-campus training seminars related to VA Education Benefits. Additional responsibilities may include other tasks related to on-campus Veteran Services as assigned.
Location: Hybrid, Spectrum Center, San Diego, CA
Essential Functions:
  • Fields Veteran Education Benefits inquiries in person, by phone, and virtually.
  • Assists with reporting student enrollments to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Process VA correspondence and support other administrative tasks related to the administration of Veteran Education Benefits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective delivery of on-campus Veteran Services.
Requirements:
  • Current NU student receiving Veteran Education Benefits under Title 38, U.S.C., Chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 1606, and Edith N. Rogers STEM Scholarship.
  • Enrolled in and pursuing an approved program of education at a rate of 3/4 time or greater during the work study semester.
  • Maintain good academic standing according to NU's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy.
  • Ability to meet National University's employee performance and campus dress code standards.
  • Experience in customer service and customer relations.
Technical / Functional Skills:
  • Fundamental understanding of Veterans Education Benefits.
  • Ability to navigate VA.gov, Ask VA, eBenefits.gov, and the GI Bill® Comparison Tool.
  • Proficiency in communicating within hybrid work environments.
  • Basic computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

Note: Veterans with service-connected disabilities rated at 30 percent or more are given hiring priority for VA Work Study positions.
