Job Summary
The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting position is a newly created opportunity within a fast growing commercial and utility-scale solar renewable energy company based in Houston, TX with over $15 billion in assets under management. Reporting to the Director of Technical Accounting, the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting will be responsible for providing authoritative technical guidance on complex transactions, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring accounting conclusions are well-documented, supportable, and scalable as the company grows. Based out of the Houston, TX office, this Senior Manager level opportunity will offer a comprehensive compensation package comprised of a base salary in the $160,000 to $200,000 range, plus a 20% annual bonus target, a 20% annual LTIP plan, full benefits, and a hybrid work schedule with potential remote option with monthly travel to Houston. Ideal candidates should have 5 plus years of professional experience, CPA, strong knowledge of technical accounting matters, as well as exposure to renewable energy sector methodology such as Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value (HLBV) and tax equity structures whether directly or through public accounting engagement experience.
  
Job Description
  • Lead the assessment, interpretation, and implementation of complex accounting standards, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), consolidation and VIE analysis, debt and equity classification, derivatives, impairments, and business combinations.
  • Assess, interpret, and support implementation of complex accounting standards, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), consolidation and VIE analysis, debt and equity classification, derivatives, impairments, and business combinations.
  • Support technical accounting for securitizations, structured financings, and complex capital markets transactions.
  • Lead or support purchase price accounting and post-acquisition integration for asset and portfolio acquisitions.
  • Evaluate accounting treatment for tax equity structures and complex solar legal entities, partnering closely with Tax, Asset Management, and external advisors.
  • Serve as a key technical accounting resource for new products, portfolio structures, and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos and position papers to support accounting conclusions and external audit review.
  • Partner with Financial Reporting to support quarterly and annual reporting, including preparation and review of disclosures and critical accounting judgments.
  • Support IPO readiness and public-company accounting requirements, including alignment of policies, controls, and documentation standards.
  • Partner with external auditors on technical accounting matters and assist in resolution of complex accounting issues.
  • Monitor emerging accounting standards and SEC guidance, assess business applicability, and support implementation efforts.
  • Collaborate with Legal, FP&A, Asset Management, and Operations to ensure accounting considerations are incorporated into transaction structuring and execution.
  • Mentor and help develop team members, fostering a culture of rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
  • Partner with accounting and systems teams to ensure technical accounting requirements are properly reflected in system design and data flows.
  • Experience working in ERP environments that support complex legal entity structures and portfolio accounting (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred).
  • Comfort working with large data sets, supporting documentation, and automation tools to enhance repeatability and control.
  
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful technical accounting responsibility.
  • CPA required.
  • Big Four public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with tax equity structures, Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value (HLBV) accounting method, and renewable energy accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP and familiarity with SEC reporting considerations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting IPO readiness and/or public-company reporting environments preferred.
  • Deep experience with securitizations, consolidation analysis (including VIEs), purchase price accounting, and complex financing structures.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex accounting matters and communicate conclusions clearly to management and auditors.
  • High integrity, strong judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to work in the Houston, TX office on a hybrid basis or monthly travel to Houston.
