To expand our North American team, we are hiring a Project Accountant to support the financial management of utility-scale solar projects. (remote available).

The Project Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial lifecycle of utility-scale solar projects-from project initiation through closeout. This role is responsible for project cost tracking, billing, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

You will partner closely with Project Managers, Logistics, and the international accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely invoicing, and effective cost control. This position will sit under the Project Manager and serves as a key financial liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Project Financial Management

  • Oversee financial aspects of assigned solar projects, including cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Monitor project performance against budgets and identify risks or discrepancies early

  • Manage and track Letters of Credit (LOCs), including issuance, utilization, amendments, and releases in accordance with contractual requirements

  • Perform monthly project reviews, investigating and resolving variances and unusual items

  • Lead project closeout activities, including final reconciliations

  • Ensure all recurring financial responsibilities are completed accurately and on schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)

Billing, Contracts & Accounts Receivable

  • Manage end-to-end invoicing process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms

  • Set up new customer accounts and maintain billing schedules

  • Prepare and manage change orders, contract amendments, and customer quotations in coordination with Project Managers

  • Track payment applications and follow up on outstanding receivables

  • Act as the financial owner for assigned clients/projects

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and analyze project cost reports, financial statements, and performance metrics

  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions

  • Support forecasting and cash flow planning for ongoing projects

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Maintain comprehensive project financial records, including contracts, purchase orders, invoices, and BOMs

  • Collaborate with Logistics to confirm deliveries and align billing milestones

  • Ensure proper documentation for audit readiness and compliance

Compliance, Audit & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Prepare and review lien waivers in accordance with project and jurisdictional requirements

  • Support internal and external audits, including tax filings and reporting requirements

  • Review and validate project-related expenses and documentation

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary financial liaison between Project Managers, partners, and accounting teams

  • Provide financial insights to support project decision-making

  • Resolve client financial inquiries and support issue resolution proactively

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 1-3 years of experience in project accounting or similar role

  • CPA or CMA designation preferred

  • Experience in solar, renewable energy, construction, or EPC environments strongly preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
