Job description

Job Description ProspectBlue is partnering with a respected law firm in Washington DC to identify an experienced Managing Family Law Paralegal to join its growing Family Law practice. This position is ideal for a seasoned paralegal who brings both extensive litigation experience and a proven ability to lead and develop a team of legal professionals. Must have Family Law experience in Washington, DC, Maryland, and/or Virginia; DC experience is strongly preferred.

Candidates should have at least three years of family law paralegal experience, as well as prior experience supervising, mentoring, or managing paralegals or legal support staff. While the preference is for someone based in the Washington, DC office, the firm will consider a hybrid or remote schedule provided they can travel to the DC office occasionally as needed. In this leadership role, you will combine hands-on litigation support with team management responsibilities.

You will oversee complex family law matters from initial case intake through trial while helping guide workflow, mentor staff, and contribute to the continued success and growth of the Family Law department. Responsibilities Provide leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance to Family Law paralegals and legal support staff. Work closely with attorneys to coordinate caseloads, monitor deadlines, allocate resources, and ensure matters progress efficiently.

Manage all phases of complex family law litigation, including divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence matters, and post-judgment proceedings. Draft, review, and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, financial statements, and trial-related materials. Analyze and organize financial documentation, including income records, assets, liabilities, and supporting evidence relevant to family law matters.

Coordinate discovery efforts, document production, and overall case management activities. Assist attorneys and clients in preparing for mediations, depositions, settlement conferences, hearings, and trial. Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients by providing professional, compassionate communication throughout the life of each case.

Prepare and file court documents while ensuring compliance with applicable court rules, filing procedures, and deadlines. Help establish and improve departmental processes, workflows, and best practices to enhance efficiency and consistency. Support the onboarding, training, and professional development of new paralegals and legal assistants.

Identify opportunities to streamline operations, improve case management processes, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the Family Law practice. Qualifications Minimum of three years of experience as a Family Law Paralegal. Previous supervisory, mentoring, or team leadership experience overseeing paralegals or legal support staff is strongly preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of family law litigation procedures and court processes. Excellent legal drafting, organizational, and case management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment.

Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and client service skills. Exceptional attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and initiative. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and legal case management software.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a confident leader who enjoys mentoring others while remaining actively involved in casework. They are proactive, resourceful, and capable of anticipating challenges before they arise. This individual takes ownership of their work, makes thoughtful decisions, and helps keep complex cases moving efficiently from start to finish.

They thrive in a collaborative environment, continuously look for ways to improve processes, and are committed to delivering exceptional service to both attorneys and clients.
