General Description

The Senior Director of Church and Community Development provides strategic oversight and leadership for multiple national programs that strengthen pastoral leaders, equip thriving congregations, and promote holistic community wellbeing. This role ensures alignment across programs, builds partnerships, and drives innovation that supports the mission and vision of the organization.

The Senior Director will oversee program directors, manage key relationships with funders and partners, and lead the design and implementation of initiatives that activate churches as agents of transformation in their communities.

About You

The ideal candidate is a strategic and relational leader with a passion for community transformation and the role of the Church in holistic development. You excel at designing and implementing systems that connect and equip stakeholders, fostering collaboration among churches, community partners, and organizations. With experience in program design, leadership, or community engagement—ideally in faith-based or nonprofit settings—you bring both vision and structure to initiatives that create lasting impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in theology, community development, organizational leadership, higher education, or a related field (Practical Theology and Doctorate preferred).
  • 8 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit, faith-based, or community development organizations, and pastoral.
  • Proven experience managing multiple programs and supervising senior staff.
  • Strong understanding of Hispanic culture, Christian traditions, congregational life, pastoral formation, and community development.
  • Excellent strategic planning, communication, and partnership-building skills.
  • Commitment to faith-rooted social impact.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders.
  • Experience analyzing data and using the theory of change and logic model framework.
  • Mission-driven, collaborative, and adaptable to changing needs.


What You’ll Be Doing

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide vision and direction for a portfolio of programs that support pastoral, congregational, and community development.
  • Ensure strategic alignment between programs and organizational priorities.
  • Develop and monitor annual goals, outcomes, and evaluation frameworks for each program.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership in strategic planning and resource development.

Program Oversight

  • Integrate and coach program directors and managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Oversee program budgets, deliverables, and compliance with grant and partnership agreements.
  • Ensure consistent systems for program planning, implementation, reporting, and impact evaluation.
  • Oversee development of program logic models, theories of change, and measurable outcomes for all initiatives.

Program Design

  • Lead the design of new church and community development programs that align with organizational mission and strategic priorities, including the program logic model, theories of change, and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify community needs and opportunities through data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and field insights to inform program design.
  • Develop frameworks and models for church engagement, leadership development, and community impact initiatives.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices, cultural relevance, and faith-based principles into program design.

Partnership and Resource Development

  • Cultivate relationships with faith-based networks, community partners, and foundations to advance shared mission and goals.
  • Develop and maintain systems that effectively connect and engage key stakeholders with Urban Strategies’ mission and programs.
  • Support proposal development, fundraising, and stewardship of donor relationships.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, coalitions, and public events.
  • Build strategic partnerships with denominations, community organizations, and academic institutions to inform and enhance program design.

Capacity Building and Innovation

  • Promote professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Provide direction for the creation of training materials, workshops, and digital learning platforms.
  • Guide the development of new initiatives and resources that address emerging needs in congregational and community wellbeing.
  • Encourage learning, reflection, and the sharing of best practices across programs.
