Job description

Director of Technical Delivery
Seattle Software Developers
Seattle, WA (Hybrid or Remote for the Right Candidate)
About Us
Seattle Software Developers is a fast-growing custom software development firm serving startups, SMBs, and growth-stage companies. Our projects range from $50K to $500K+ and include web platforms, mobile applications, enterprise systems, and complex integrations.
As we scale, we are building our internal delivery engine and reducing reliance on white-label partners. We are seeking a senior technical leader to own technical discovery, estimation, resourcing, and delivery execution.
The Role
This is a senior, client-facing leadership position responsible for converting signed deals into successfully delivered projects.
You will act as the technical authority during pre-sales and own delivery performance from kickoff through launch.
This is not a traditional project manager role and not a purely hands-on coding role. It requires architectural depth, client presence, and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales & Discovery
  • Join sales calls to lead technical discovery
  • Assess feasibility, architecture, and risk
  • Define tech stack and system design approach
  • Estimate cost, timeline, and required resources
  • Draft detailed Statements of Work (SOWs) and milestone plans

Resourcing & Team Building
  • Source and vet developers (U.S. and offshore)
  • Build a preferred contractor bench
  • Evaluate build vs. outsource decisions
  • Optimize resource allocation for margin performance

Delivery Leadership
  • Oversee project execution from kickoff to launch
  • Serve as primary technical point of contact for clients
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Manage scope, risk, and change orders
  • Establish QA and code review standards

Operational & Margin Accountability
  • Track estimated vs. actual hours
  • Improve estimation accuracy over time
  • Identify delivery bottlenecks
  • Increase gross margin through better scoping and team structure

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years leading technical delivery in an agency or consulting environment
  • Strong architectural experience across modern web/mobile stacks
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Proven experience scoping and delivering custom builds ($50K-$500K+)
  • Experience building and managing distributed engineering teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Financial awareness and comfort discussing budgets with clients

Preferred:
  • Experience scaling a development team
  • Background in startup or high-growth environment
  • Familiarity with agile and hybrid delivery models

What Success Looks Like
  • High-confidence project estimates
  • Improved gross margins
  • Strong client satisfaction
  • Repeatable and scalable delivery processes

Compensation
Competitive base salary + performance-based bonus tied to delivery performance and margin improvement.
Why Join Us
You will play a foundational role in building the technical backbone of a rapidly scaling software agency. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity with real ownership and visibility.
