Summary / Primary Role:

The Business Development Representative (BDR) is a front-line sales role within the Odyssey Brokerage division, responsible for generating new business opportunities and building relationships with prospective shippers. Acting as the first point of contact, the BDR identifies customer needs, qualifies opportunities, and positions Odysseyโ€™s 3PL solutions to drive revenue growth. This role requires resilience, strong communication, and a passion for connecting with potential customers to create long-term partnerships.ย

What Youโ€™ll Do:

ย Prospecting & Lead Generation

โ€ข Execute high-volume outbound prospecting (calls, emails, LinkedIn, digital tools) to engage target accounts.

โ€ข Identify and pursue mid-market shippers with meaningful freight spend and sophisticated supply chain needs.

โ€ข Research industries, supply chain profiles, and decision-maker networks to design effective outreach campaigns.

โ€ข Create and maintain a qualified pipeline of opportunities, including RFPs, seasonal demand, and project-based freight.

Sales Development & Consultative Engagement

โ€ข Lead discovery conversations to uncover customer challenges and align Odysseyโ€™s brokerage solutions.

โ€ข Develop and deliver proposals, service presentations, and pricing strategies tailored to each prospect.

โ€ข Collaborate with operations and account management teams to ensure seamless onboarding and long-term service success.

โ€ข Track competitive insights and market trends to anticipate customer needs and support retention efforts.

Portfolio Management & Customer Execution

โ€ข Act as the primary relationship manager for newly secured accounts until fully transitioned to Account Management.

โ€ข Partner with operations teams to ensure loads are executed in alignment with customer expectations.

โ€ข Monitor early shipment activity to validate pricing, service levels, and carrier compliance.

โ€ข Proactively communicate with customers during the onboarding phase to build confidence and address execution concerns.

โ€ข Provide feedback to internal teams on recurring issues, process gaps, or opportunities for improvement.

CRM & Reporting

โ€ข Maintain accurate records of contacts, notes, opportunities, and pipeline stages in CRM.

โ€ข Report on prospecting activity, conversion metrics, and sales pipeline health to leadership.

โ€ข Partner with internal teams to align pipeline growth with overall brokerage revenue goals.

What You Bring:

โ€ข 2-4 years of experience in freight brokerage or 3PL sales (preferred)

โ€ข Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.

โ€ข Demonstrated success in B2B sales with moderately complex cycles.

โ€ข Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence decision-makers.

โ€ข Familiarity with truckload, LTL, expedited, or intermodal freight solutions.

โ€ข Proficiency in CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).
