What is a remote surgical tech?

A Remote Surgical Tech is a trained surgical technologist who assists in surgical procedures remotely, often using advanced telecommunication and robotic systems. They provide real-time guidance, instrument handling support, and expertise to on-site surgical teams. This role is commonly utilized in telemedicine, military operations, and rural healthcare settings where specialized expertise may not be physically available.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote surgical tech?

To excel as a Remote Surgical Tech, you need a formal surgical technology education, certification (such as CST or TS-C), and a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and sterile technique. Familiarity with telemedicine platforms, remote surgical assistance systems, and secure data transfer technologies is critical. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating with surgeons and medical teams from a distance. These abilities ensure safe, effective support in the operating room while adapting to the unique demands of a remote work environment.

What are some of the unique challenges faced by remote surgical techs compared to traditional on-site roles?

Remote Surgical Techs often encounter challenges such as relying heavily on technology for real-time collaboration and communication, which requires quick troubleshooting skills and adaptability when technical issues arise. Unlike traditional roles, you must maintain surgical standards and provide timely instrument guidance without being physically present in the operating room. It’s important to build strong remote relationships with surgeons and team members to ensure smooth workflow and patient safety. Fortunately, employers typically provide advanced training to help remote techs stay connected and effective, supporting a rewarding career path in this innovative field.

  • Facilitate virtual and inperson sessions, providing expertise while capturing adoption signals and feedback to inform enablement effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and support the deployment of ARTI and related AIdriven solutions in Medical Education environments, including labs, acting as the interface between AI Technologies, MedEd, and supporting functions.
  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics for ARTI and future AIenabled products (e.g., adoption, utilization, engagement), developing dashboards and reporting structures.
  • Analyze usage data and field feedback to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and present actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Deliver competitive analysis, market intelligence, and opportunity assessments to support commercial strategy.
  • Participate in overall product strategy by contributing downstream insights, adoption data, market feedback, and commercial considerations.
  • May travel up to 30%, including global travel, to support regional activities, trainings, meetings, and events.
  • In-office, Naples FL-based position; remote work is not supported.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advanced education (e.g., MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • Global medical device product marketing management knowledge and experience preferred.

  • Ability to interpret AIrelated concepts and performance indicators and translate them into clear business and clinical language.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience turning qualitative and quantitative data into actionable insights.
  • High comfort operating in ambiguity and fastevolving product environments, typical of AIdriven development cycles.
