Overview

Oak View Group's Global Marketing team creates engaging, high-impact storytelling opportunities in media that drive company growth and enhance OVG's visibility. We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Director, Communications to join our team. The Director, Communications is responsible for external communications and storytelling of Oak View Group's hospitality team and select business verticals in desired media. The candidate will work closely with the VP of Communications and leaders to develop proactive communications strategies aligned with key prospects and target audiences. The Director, Communications will serve as a vital resource for managed venues, ensuring alignment and consistency of messaging across the US & Canada, promoting key milestones, and working closely with venue staff to do so. 

This role will pay a salary of $150,000 to $160,000 and is bonus eligible.

This position will remain open until November 20, 2026.
Responsibilities
  • Create and implement external communications strategies that are supportive of and advance Oak View Group's brand identity and business objectives in priority verticals in business and consumer press.
  • Proactively develop opportunities and collaborations to place stories and promote key spokespeople.
  • Develop and maintain active contact with press and influencers that benefit Oak View Group's business verticals, including serving as primary contact for OVG Hospitality and related properties.
  • Work with venue teams and internal business leaders to develop news-worthy content that drives story-telling efforts and supports Oak View Group's overall PR strategy.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team on content creation and story ideas for promotion on OVG corporate channels.
  • Partner cross-functionally with groups, including social media and content teams, to drive announcement content of new business, sustainability efforts, and bespoke content that drives engagement and shines a light on our partners.
  • Bring strong media relationships across key areas including hospitality (both consumer and trade), lifestyle, sports, and entertainment, including both national and local.
  • Create and maintain an Editorial Calendar to assist with the promotion of strategic communications initiatives to include important milestones, events, and seasons.
  • Identify and create media opportunities for leadership to tell the Oak View Group story in priority verticals in target media. Develop messaging, prepare briefing materials, and brief spokespersons in preparation for media interviews.
  • Support crisis communications plan development and deployment with the goal of protecting Oak View Group overall, its brands, and assets, and reinforcing its reputation as a responsible entity.
  • Support the continued evolution of the company's crisis response capability, including ongoing review and development of crisis communication processes and procedures.
  • Be an enthusiastic champion for OVG.
  • Build relationships with business and PR leaders in each vertical business.
  • Develop and monitor PR KPIs and report monthly.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field required.
  • 5-7+ years of previous communications experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills: detail-focused, able to handle multiple tasks/projects at a time.
  • Strategic thinker with creative approach to story ideas and media outreach.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with teams.
  • Experience in the hospitality, live entertainment, or sports industry preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Familiarity with Canva, Staffbase, and other graphics software.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.
  • Listen effectively, assess the situation, determine relevant issues, & suggest solutions.
  • Ability to work nights, events, and weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel as required.
