Job description

Who We Are

International Justice Mission (IJM) is the global leader in protecting vulnerable people from violence around the world. Our team of over 1,300 professionals are at work worldwide in over 30 offices. Together we are on a mission to rescue millions, protect half a billion, and make justice unstoppable.

We are a global community that cares for one another. We believe that the way we work is as important as the results we achieve. We provide professional excellence with joy and celebration to all those we serve.

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM's Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Marketing Writer to execute high-quality, high-volume written content that drives audience engagement and action across IJM's marketing and fundraising efforts.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the Global Director, Marketing Communications and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities
  • Write and edit persuasive, action-oriented content across email, web pages, landing pages, social media, and print materials;

  • Develop fundraising appeals and donor-facing communications that drive response and engagement;

  • Craft compelling headlines, subject lines, and opening hooks that capture attention and motivate action;

  • Produce multiple variations of copy (e.g., subject lines, headlines, calls to action) to support testing and optimization;

  • Revise and refine content based on feedback and performance insights to strengthen clarity and persuasive impact;

  • Execute content that supports multi-touch marketing and fundraising campaigns across the full audience journey;

  • Translate complex or programmatic subject matter into clear, audience-relevant messaging;

  • Ensure individual content pieces contribute to the broader sequencing and flow of campaign communications;

  • Follow established brand guidelines, messaging frameworks, and editorial standards across all content;

  • Apply best practices for writing across channels, including email, web readability, and social engagement;

  • Incorporate performance insights (e.g., engagement, response rates) to refine messaging and improve effectiveness over time;

  • Participate in content testing practices (e.g., A/B testing) as directed, applying learnings to future outputs;

  • Maintain organized records of content drafts, revisions, and final deliverables; and

  • Participation in IJM's community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field;

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing copywriting or content development, with a focus on digital and campaign-based communications;

  • Demonstrated experience writing across multiple channels, including email, web, social, and print;

  • Experience supporting marketing or fundraising campaigns preferred;

  • Portfolio of writing samples demonstrating ability to produce persuasive, high-quality copy across channels required;

  • Understanding of audience motivation and conversion-oriented writing techniques;

  • Ability to produce high-quality copy at speed while maintaining consistency and effectiveness;

  • Familiarity with content testing, performance analysis, and iterative improvement; and

  • Ability to leverage digital and AI-assisted tools to increase efficiency without compromising quality or brand voice.

Critical Qualities:
  • Eager commitment to IJM's Core Values: Christian, Professional and Bridge-Building;

  • Global and cultural awareness, with sensitivity to communicating across diverse audiences and contexts;

  • Self-starter with strong initiative;

  • Disciplined with priorities;
