About the Company

Design Space InPharmatics, the North American division of Product Life Group (PLG), a leading international pharmaceutical consulting organization, is seeking a Bioengineering Consultant to shape our in vivo delivery roadmap and to serve as a critical external expert advising R&D and CMC teams on the design and optimization of strategies for delivering iPSC-derived thymic cells into target tissues. This is a high-impact, scientifically collaborative role at the intersection of biomaterials science, stem cell biology, and translational medicine.

Responsibilities

CELL THERAPY DELIVERY STRATEGY

  • Design and evaluate cell delivery approaches (injectable scaffolds, hydrogels, bioengineered constructs) optimized for iPSC-derived thymic epithelial and progenitor cells.
  • Advise on routes of administration (subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intrathoracic, or surgical implantation) tailored to thymic cell engraftment biology.
  • Develop criteria for selecting biomaterial matrices and encapsulation systems that support cell viability, immune evasion, and functional thymopoiesis in vivo.

BIOMATERIALS & SCAFFOLD ENGINEERING

  • Evaluate natural and synthetic biomaterials (fibrin, collagen, PEG, decellularized ECM, etc.) for compatibility with iPSC-derived cell populations.
  • Design or adapt 3D scaffolding or organoid-like constructs that replicate thymic microenvironmental cues and support long-term cell function post-delivery.
  • Identify and assess off-the-shelf or custom biomaterial platforms suitable for GMP-compatible scale-up.

PRECLINICAL & TRANSLATIONAL INPUT

  • Collaborate with our preclinical team to design in vivo experiments that rigorously test delivery efficacy, cell engraftment, and functional immune reconstitution.
  • Advise on animal model selection and surgical/delivery procedures relevant to thymic regeneration studies.
  • Provide translational guidance to bridge preclinical findings toward IND-enabling studies and eventual clinical application.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION

  • Partner with CMC and Analytical Development teams to ensure delivery formulations are compatible with manufacturing and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to scientific documentation including protocols, reports, grant deliverables, and regulatory briefing documents.
  • Participate in internal scientific meetings, external advisory discussions, and partner interactions as a subject-matter expert.

Qualifications

  • Advance degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field; MD/PhD or equivalent clinical-research background a plus.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in cell therapy delivery, with a track record of translating biomaterial-based delivery systems into in vivo models.
  • Practical experience working with iPSC-derived cell types (any lineage) or primary stem/progenitor cell populations.
  • Strong command of biomaterials science including hydrogels, decellularized matrices, encapsulation technologies, and scaffold fabrication.
  • Knowledge of tissue engineering principles and 3D culture systems relevant to cell therapy applications.
  • Familiarity with immune biology sufficient to understand T cell development, thymic function, or immunodeficiency disease contexts.

Required Skills

  • Prior experience in thymus biology, thymic organoids, or immune reconstitution models.
  • Experience with GMP-compatible biomaterial or delivery platform development.
  • Background in immunomodulatory biomaterials or immune-evasive encapsulation strategies.
  • Familiarity with IND-enabling study design and regulatory expectations for cell therapy products.
  • Experience designing delivery systems for organoid or 3D tissue constructs.
  • Existing network in the cell therapy and regenerative medicine space.
  • Publications or patents in relevant areas of cell therapy delivery or biomaterials.
