The Role
We are seeking a senior Cloud Database Administrator to support and improve the production databases and environment behind DrChrono, one of EverHealth's core healthcare SaaS applications.
In this role, you will administer, troubleshoot, and optimize AWS-hosted database systems that support DrChrono's critical healthcare workflows. You will work primarily with MariaDB on AWS RDS replicas, with additional exposure to Redis, and related AWS data services.
This role reports to the Head of SRE and partners closely with Platform, SRE, product engineering, and security. You will play a key role in keeping DrChrono's databases performant, secure, resilient, and ready for future modernization, including potential migration from AWS RDS to AWS Aurora. This role is ideal for a deeply experienced DBA who enjoys hands-on production work, complex performance troubleshooting, and improving the reliability of business-critical healthcare software.
Role Responsibilities
Manage Production Database Systems
  • Administer and support DrChrono's cloud database environments in AWS
  • Manage MariaDB on AWS RDS, including replica sets, replication health, backups, restores, configuration, and failover readiness
  • Use Bytebase to help administer database access, changes, and workflows
  • Participate in database-related production support, incident response, and RCAs
  • Support backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices

Troubleshoot and Improve Performance
  • Lead hands-on troubleshooting of database performance issues in production
  • Analyze slow queries, locking, replication lag, indexing, connection behavior, and other workload patterns
  • Tune queries, indexes, schema patterns, and database configurations to improve performance and reliability
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify application-level database issues and recommend practical fixes
  • Help establish repeatable steps for diagnosing/resolving recurring database issues

Improve Reliability and Operational Discipline
  • Help define standards for database administration, access control, change management, and release support
  • Work closely with Platform Engineering, SRE, Product Engineering, Security teams
  • Communicate database risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly
  • Help engineering teams make sound decisions when designing, changing, or scaling database-backed systems
  • Strengthen database availability, recoverability, and operational readiness
  • Support capacity planning, scaling decisions, and database lifecycle management
  • Maintain clear documentation for database environments, operational procedures, and recovery processes
  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to support secure handling of PHI

About You
  • Strong troubleshooting judgment and a practical approach to incident response
  • Ability to explain database issues, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong collaboration skills with SRE, engineering, platform, and security teams
  • A bias toward improving reliability, repeatability, documentation, and long-term operational health

Target Experience
  • 8+ years of database administration experience in production software environments
  • Deep experience with MariaDB on AWS RDS
  • Strong experience with AWS Aurora
  • Hands-on experience administering AWS-hosted database services
  • Strong experience troubleshooting database performance issues in production environments
  • Strong database performance tuning experience, including query analysis, indexing, locking, schema review, and workload optimization
  • Experience using Bytebase to administer databases, manage database changes, or support database workflows
  • Experience managing RDS replica sets, replication behavior, failover readiness, backups, restores, and production operations
  • Hands-on experience with Redis in production environments
  • Strong understanding of database reliability, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and operational best practices
  • Strong experience supporting SaaS, cloud-hosted, or high-availability database platforms
  • Experience working in healthcare technology, healthcare SaaS, or other regulated data environments (strongly preferred)
  • Experience supporting HIPAA-compliant systems and handling PHI securely (strongly preferred)
  • Experience partnering with SRE, DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering teams (strongly preferred)

Nice to Have Experience
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Salt, Spacelift, Terraform, OpenTofu, etc.)

Compensation
EverCommerce is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000 USD per year.
