A Data Center Fiber Network Engineer or OSP/ISP Design Engineer is responsible for architecting high-speed optical routing. They plan, size, and map the physical and logical pathways-both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP)-ensuring reliable, scalable, and low-latency fiber connectivity in and out of a data center.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Fiber Design Engineer to architect and manage the physical fiber optic infrastructure for our mission-critical data centers. You will be responsible for end-to-end design, sizing, and spatial routing of high-density optical cables connecting the facility to the outside world, as well as the intricate distribution pathways within the white space.
Key Responsibilities
  • Outside Plant (OSP) Routing: Design fiber ingress and egress paths, determining optimal trenching, boring, conduit sizing, and manhole placement to securely link the data center to external telecommunication rings.
  • Inside Plant (ISP) & Pathways: Map intra-facility pathways, including fiber duct banks, cable trays, raceways, and riser systems, ensuring compliance with bending radius and spatial constraints.
  • Capacity & Sizing Planning: Analyze bandwidth demands and calculate fiber counts, splice ratios, and splice enclosure placements to scale data center infrastructure effectively.
  • Documentation & Mapping: Develop detailed route maps, rack layouts, floor plans, and fiber block diagrams using CAD or GIS design software.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs align with data center industry standards (e.g., TIA, BICSI) and meet strict fire-safety and airflow regulations.
  • Budgeting & BOMs: Generate bills of materials (BOM), project cost estimates, and vendor specifications for procurement.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+years of experience in OSP/ISP fiber design, telecommunications engineering, or data center infrastructure planning.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of fiber design tools, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and CAD software.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of single-mode/multi-mode fiber optics, optical transceivers, splice tray organization, and cable management (MPO/MTP connectors).
  • Certifications: Certifications such as BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) or FOA (Fiber Optic Association) are strongly preferred.

The Fine Print:
We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to employees in similar roles. Some benefits have eligibility criteria. All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
