Remote Ran Engineer information

What are some common challenges Remote RAN Engineers face when troubleshooting network issues from a distance?

Remote RAN Engineers often encounter challenges such as limited physical access to on-site equipment, relying heavily on remote diagnostic tools and clear communication with local technicians. Effective troubleshooting requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with remote monitoring platforms, as well as the ability to interpret alarms and logs without physical context. Building good relationships with on-site teams and maintaining detailed documentation can help overcome these hurdles and ensure efficient problem resolution.

What is a Remote RAN Engineer?

A Remote RAN Engineer is a telecommunications professional who manages, optimizes, and troubleshoots Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment and infrastructure from a remote location. They are responsible for ensuring reliable wireless connectivity, performing network upgrades, and resolving technical issues without being physically present at the network site. This role typically involves working with various network technologies, monitoring system performance, and collaborating with on-site teams to maintain optimal network operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote RAN Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote RAN Engineer, you need a strong understanding of wireless communication principles, cellular network architecture, and a relevant degree in telecommunications or engineering. Familiarity with network management tools, RAN optimization software, and certifications such as CCNA or vendor-specific credentials (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson) are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective remote communication skills set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for ensuring optimal network performance, prompt issue resolution, and seamless collaboration across geographically dispersed teams.

What is the difference between Remote Ran Engineer vs Radio Network Engineer?

AspectRemote Ran EngineerRadio Network Engineer
CredentialsTelecom certifications, LTE/5G knowledgeTelecom certifications, RF engineering background
Work EnvironmentRemote, field, or office-basedFieldwork, office, or remote depending on project
Industry UsageTelecom providers, network vendorsTelecom providers, network vendors
Common Search IntentRemote network setup, optimization, troubleshootingNetwork design, RF planning, site surveys

Remote Ran Engineers focus on configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting RAN components remotely, often working with LTE and 5G networks. Radio Network Engineers typically handle RF planning, site surveys, and physical network deployment, often in the field. While both roles require telecom certifications and RF knowledge, Remote Ran Engineers are more likely to work remotely on network performance, whereas Radio Network Engineers are more involved in physical network setup and RF design.

Job description

Description

Type: Full-Time(W2) On-site/Hybrid, Arlington, VA (Remote option available for the right candidate)

DeepSig is defining the future of wireless communications by merging deep learning with the Radio Access Network (RAN). We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to architect and drive the development of our next-generation AI-native RAN.

We are looking for a skilled test engineer to join our team focused on testing the O-RAN DU software and hardware components. The role involves planning, designing, and executing test cases to ensure conformance, interoperability, performance, and reliability of O-RAN DU in compliance with O-RAN Alliance and 3GPP specifications. The candidate will work closely with development, integration, and network teams to validate DU functionality within the O-RAN architecture.

What You'll be doing

  • Design, develop, and execute test plans, cases, and scripts for O-RAN DU software and related interfaces
  • Perform conformance testing to verify compliance with O-RAN and 3GPP standards
  • Conduct interoperability (IOT) testing between O-RAN DU and other network elements such as O-CU and O-RU
  • Execute end-to-end (E2E) testing scenarios to validate the complete O-RAN communication chain
  • Identify, log, and track defects; work collaboratively with development teams to resolve issues
  • Automate test cases and contribute to CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing
  • Validate performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure DU meets required standards
  • Participate in site commissioning and integration support
  • Prepare detailed test reports, documentation, and provide feedback for product improvements
  • Stay updated with latest O-RAN Alliance releases, specifications, and testing methodologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Proven experience in testing telecom network elements, preferably O-RAN DU or similar RAN components
  • In-depth knowledge of O-RAN architecture and interfaces (F1, E2, Open Fronthaul, A1, etc.)
  • Familiarity with 3GPP NR standards and protocols
  • Strong skills in test automation, scripting languages (Python, Shell, etc.), and test management tools
  • Experience with virtualization, containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud-native environments
  • Good understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) and Linux operating systems
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting using RAN test equipment, protocol debuggers, and logging tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Preferred Experience:

  • 6 plus years experience at a Tier-1 OEM or US MNO is highly valued
  • Massive MIMO testing experience is must
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience of NFV, SDN, and virtualized RAN (vRAN) test experience is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with performance and stress testing using RAN test equipment
  • Familiarity with security testing within telecom environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
