What is a Remote Rail Analyst?

A Remote Rail Analyst is a professional who analyzes data related to railroad operations, infrastructure, and logistics from a remote location. They use specialized software and data analytics tools to monitor rail traffic, track performance, and identify areas for improvement in efficiency and safety. Remote Rail Analysts often collaborate with on-site teams and provide insights that help optimize rail network management. This role is essential for companies seeking to enhance rail system performance while reducing costs and minimizing risks.

How do Remote Rail Analysts typically collaborate with on-site teams and field personnel?

Remote Rail Analysts regularly communicate with on-site teams and field personnel through digital channels such as video calls, project management platforms, and real-time data sharing tools. Despite working remotely, they play a key role in interpreting data from rail operations, providing actionable insights, and ensuring alignment with on-the-ground activities. Effective collaboration often involves scheduled meetings to discuss findings, clarify requirements, and troubleshoot any issues. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear, consistent communication is essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Rail Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Rail Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of rail operations or transportation logistics, and typically a degree in engineering, transportation, or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools (such as Excel, SQL, or specialized rail analytics platforms), GIS systems, and possibly industry certifications are important. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective remote communication are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies enable analysts to optimize rail operations, ensure safety and efficiency, and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.

Decile Group

Palo Alto, CA โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Posted 4 days ago

Job description

Decile Group (https://decilegroup.com) is transforming venture capital into a force for good in the world. We are working to launch 1,000 next-generation venture capital firms by 2025, changing the face of venture capital. We run VC Lab, the leading venture capital accelerator worldwide and operate the Decile Hub platform, reducing the barriers of entry for next generation investors to launch and grow meaningful early-stage investment firms.
ย
We are looking for a an experienced Ruby on Rails developer with an emphasis on front-end development to join our team. Read more about the VC Lab tech team here: https://github.com/VCLab-Inc/Engineering
ย
The ideal dev is self-motivated with real-world experience and there is no question in your mind that you could take an idea and turn it into a functional and beautiful product. You donโ€™t need a fancy degree, a certain number of years of coding experience, or big tech experience -- but you do need to be a nice person and a good communicator.
ย
Basic requirements:
- You'll be expected to complete a Rails coding challenge as part of the interview process (everybody on the team has done well on it).
- You must live and work within a few time zones of Pacific (California) time. We are on zoom and slack a lot.
- You must be able to own a project and work directly with people who will use your tools.
- You need to have above average skills on the front end
ย
If you're motivated to be more, and better, than you are today, if you're not afraid to work with proven, highly skilled people who will ask for your best, to advance a worthy cause, in a fast-paced environment, with a lot of growth opportunity -- then you're a good fit for Decile Group.ย
ย
And we want to work with you too!ย
ย
Who do you want to work with?
  • The Decile Group tech team is fully remote
  • We offer competitive salary + equity
  • Our mission is to improve the world by increasing equality and diversity for startup funding
  • We work with an open source tech stack, primarily Ruby on Rails
  • Our leadership is deeply experienced, having been involved in multiple rocketship unicorn success stories.
  • Mentorship to help you reach your potential
  • Mentorship opportunities to help _others_ reach _their_ potential
  • Silicon Valley scalability
What skills do you need? The soft stuff:
  • You are comfortable and confident on the front-end
  • You can take a project from idea to implementation without a lot of oversight
  • You are a good communicator in both written and spoken English
  • You have learned _a lot_ of lessons and solved _a lot_ of problems in your career
  • You can work in the Pacific (California) time zone
  • You aren't afraid of a fast paced environment where there is more to do than time to do it
  • You are willing to complete a code challenge as part of the interview process
What skills do you need? The tech stuff:
  • 3+ years of coding experience, emphasis on front-end (turbo, hotwire, stimulus, tailwind)
  • Ruby on Rails or another open source stack
  • JavaScript
  • Tailwinds or another CSS library
  • AWS or Google Cloud
Depends greatly on level of experience
About VC Lab

ย
To apply
Submit your resume. If you look like a good fit for the team, you'll be invited to take a code challenge. Only ~10% of applicants are invited to take the code challenge. Based on the results of your code challenge, you may be invited to interview. If youโ€™re not comfortable doing a code challenge project, then youโ€™re not a good fit.

We look forward to working with you!
