Job description

AXG is partnered with a global leader in the chemical manufacturing sector who are seeking a Senior Rail Analyst to support the strategic planning, commercial analysis, and optimization of a large North American rail transportation network.


Working closely with supply chain, sales, finance, and third-party transportation providers, the successful candidate will develop analytical models, evaluate transportation alternatives, and support rail fleet planning and commercial negotiations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead rail network and supply chain optimization initiatives to improve freight economics and maximize asset utilization
  • Analyze transportation costs, sourcing strategies, and logistics alternatives to support commercial decision-making
  • Build and maintain financial and operational models related to rail freight, fleet planning, and logistics performance
  • Support negotiations and ongoing management of rail-related commercial agreements, including freight and railcar leasing contracts
  • Develop short- and long-term rail fleet plans to align with customer demand and business objectives
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, KPI reporting, variance analyses, and management reports related to transportation operations
  • Partner with finance on logistics accruals, cost reporting, and invoice reviews
  • Provide logistics cost analysis and commercial support for sales opportunities and new business initiatives
  • Monitor industry trends and identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency and reduce costs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with supply chain, logistics, finance, and commercial teams on strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline
  • Approximately 7+ years of experience in commercial analysis, strategic planning, logistics, supply chain, transportation, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities with advanced Excel skills; experience with Power BI is highly desirable
  • Background in rail transportation, chemicals, energy, industrial manufacturing, or logistics is preferred
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and performance reporting
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and present complex analyses to leadership
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
