Job description

We are currently looking for a Quality Engineering Lead for a 100% remote position on a large federal healthcare technology program supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will lead quality strategy, test planning, and delivery assurance across multiple Agile teams supporting APIs, integrations, platform services, and user-facing applications. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and release leadership to ensure high-quality software delivery within a DevSecOps environment.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead quality engineering strategy across multiple teams supporting software delivery, platform operations, and data integration initiatives.
  • Define and evolve testing approaches for functional, integration, regression, non-functional, and release validation activities.
  • Coordinate quality planning activities across product, engineering, and operations stakeholders to ensure release readiness and delivery confidence.
  • Establish and monitor quality metrics, defect trends, test coverage, and release health indicators.
  • Guide the adoption of test automation frameworks, CI/CD quality gates, and quality engineering best practices.
  • Review user stories, requirements, and technical designs to ensure testability and quality considerations are incorporated early in the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Test Automation Engineers and developers to improve coverage across API, middleware, data, and UI layers.
  • Support root cause analysis, defect triage, and corrective actions for production and pre-production issues.
  • Mentor QA and test engineering personnel while driving continuous improvement initiatives across delivery teams.
  • Partner with release and program leadership to support milestone readiness, auditability, and delivery transparency.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or quality leadership roles.
  • Experience leading test strategy and quality engineering activities for enterprise or federal technology programs.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and quality engineering practices within DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience supporting API, middleware, integration, data, and end-to-end system testing.
  • Knowledge of defect management, test management, and reporting tools such as Jira and related platforms.
  • Experience defining test plans, quality metrics, and release readiness criteria.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and coordination skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience working closely with developers, product managers, and operations teams to improve software quality outcomes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other federal healthcare initiatives.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards, API-based integrations, or healthcare data workflows.
  • Experience with accessibility, security, compliance, or performance testing practices.
  • Relevant certifications in software testing, Agile, SAFe, or quality engineering methodologies.
  • Experience leading distributed or remote engineering and QA teams.
