Job description

University of Iowa Health Care's department of Patient Financial Services (PFS) is seeking a Business Intelligence Architect to support the Patient Financial Services (PFS) Leadership team and department which is comprised of approximately 625 employees in multiple locations.  This role is to lead development and implement tools to support and maintain the business analytics demands of the UI Health Care revenue cycle. Areas of major focus include scorecard/dashboard development, operational and productivity performance analysis, operational and financial benchmarking.  Descriptive and predictive analytics will be used to support these areas of focus. This position will collaborate with teams of clinical leaders, administrators, and data warehouse architects to develop, create, and present business analysis related to the UI Healthcare revenue cycle.

This position is primarily a combination of remote and onsite (hybrid) work locations.  Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa.  Training will be held ONSITE at the HSSB building at a length determined by the supervisor.  Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training opportunity. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review data, analytics and modeling requests and requirements.

  • Identify existing solutions or design new solutions that satisfy information requests. 

  • Perform data gap analysis based on institutional data availability and business requirements.

  • Analyze data integrity and maintain documentation regarding the validity of data sources.

  • Perform advanced data analysis techniques.  To identify trends, outliers, and potential issues. 

  • Design solutions and programs using data analysis tools and platforms. 

  • Provide complex operational end user support. 

  • Train technical team members on use of solutions and platforms.

  • Design, implement, and provision data solutions via modeling, schema development, ETL and data quality processes.

  • Lead Analytic Projects related to UI Health Care's Revenue Cycle.

  • Perform complex queries to extract and consolidate data from various business systems.

  • Advanced understanding of statistics and data analytics.

  • Evaluate, optimize, and troubleshoot queries and ETL processes for performance and evolving requirements.

  • Contribute ideas. Seek ways to improve assigned processes.

  • Lead training and share insights with customers on data analytics and reporting.

  • May provide functional supervision; provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and consulting to assure outcomes are achieved.

  • Keep current on industry knowledge, skills, and certifications to serve as a resource to employees and to conduct job duties.

  • This position will link numerous sets of data to provide leadership with decision tools to help optimize the delivery of a top tier revenue cycle at University of Iowa Health Care.

Location: Hospital Support Services Building (HSSB) in Coralville, IA

This position is primarily a combination of remote and onsite (hybrid) work locations.  Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa.  Training will be held ONSITE at the HSSB building at a length determined by the supervisor.  Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training opportunity.  Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies.

Equipment:

  • Onsite - The department will provide a workstation which contains 3 (three) monitors, laptop/power cord, docking station/power cord, keyboard, mouse, headset, and desk supplies can be found in the supply closet.

  • Hybrid - while working onsite, the department will provide a workstation which contains 3 (three) monitors, a laptop/power cord, docking station/power cord, keyboard, mouse, headset, and desk supplies. When working offsite, the employee will take their laptop/power cord to carry back and forth, a second docking station/power cord to keep offsite. Prior to working offsite, the employee, at their own expense, will need to supply 2 (two) monitors, in addition to the university-issued laptop, which will serve as a third monitor due to its built-in camera function, a keyboard, and a mouse. Employees will be required to provide a photo of the domicile office setup and perform an internet speed test by visiting https://www.speedtest.net/ with a minimum 30mb download and 10mb upload reflecting a University of Iowa IP address, then providing a screenshot of the speed test to HR.  The employee's remote workstation should replicate the onsite setup as if they were working onsite at HSSB.

  • Remote - when working offsite, the department will provide the employee a laptop/power cord, docking station/power cord, headset. Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of education and experience

Required Qualifications: 

  • 5-7 years of experience using complex databases, SQL queries, spreadsheet, and data visualization/reporting tools for financial and operational analysis

  • Familiarity with predictive analytic techniques

  • Demonstrated ability to turn raw data into actionable information via analytic methods

  • Proficiency with Microsoft software applications including: Access, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, FrontPage, Visio, Project, and Word.

  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to bring about positive outcomes by collaborating and working in a team environment.

  • Experienced in identifying opportunities for operational improvement, using creative efforts to bring about solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous and complex situations

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Advanced SQL reporting skills with the ability to create SQL views and write SQL queries is highly desirable

  • Advanced knowledge of relational database query (SQL) skills and large databases

  • Advanced knowledge of reporting tools (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Qlikview, Alteryx or other similar tools.)

  • Previous hands-on experience building Metrics, Balanced Score Cards, Key Performance Indicators, Data Analysis, with dashboard data visualization techniques

  • Ability to find crucial data dimensions and data quality issues in a complex data warehouse

  • Ability to use creative thinking when working with data

  • Advanced proficiency with report development and dashboard design

  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the healthcare revenue cycle and corresponding data and metrics

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required
