  • Design engaging exploration and combat scenarios that encourage player discovery, challenge, and variety.
  • Help establish and refine level design standards, gameplay metrics, scripting approaches, objectives, and reward structures.
  • Build intuitive environments that naturally guide players through effective layouts, environmental storytelling, landmarks, and visual communication.
  • Continuously improve gameplay experiences through testing, iteration, and feedback integration.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure gameplay goals, technical limitations, and creative direction remain aligned.
  • Identify and resolve gameplay issues related to pacing, clarity, flow, difficulty balancing, and overall player experience.
  • Develop impactful gameplay moments during large-scale combat encounters using scripting tools and event-driven systems.
  • Stay current with modern level design techniques, trends, and industry developments to inspire innovation and quality improvements.
  • Support and mentor other designers by providing constructive feedback, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to production planning, task prioritization, and scope management for level design initiatives.

The Requirements:

  • Significant professional experience in level design within the video game industry, including shipped titles or comparable production experience.
  • Deep understanding of core level design principles such as player flow, environmental readability, pacing, navigation, and encounter design.
  • Proven ability to create gameplay scenarios that effectively combine exploration, combat, and evolving mechanics.
  • Experience contributing to gameplay frameworks, design standards, and production methodologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, ideally Unreal Engine 5.
  • Ability to independently prototype and validate gameplay concepts using Unreal Blueprints or similar scripting tools.
  • Strong scripting and implementation skills for creating dynamic events, encounters, and cinematic gameplay moments.
  • Comfortable working through iterative development cycles and making design decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Fluency in both English and French, written and spoken.
  • Ability to thrive within an international team environment spanning multiple cultures and time zones.
  • Experience using 3D modeling tools for greyboxing or gameplay iteration is considered an asset.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing level design expertise and clear design thinking, preferably with playable examples.
  • Previous mentoring or leadership experience within a design team is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of open-world game design, systemic gameplay systems, and player-driven experiences.
