Job description

Job Title: Workday Payroll Consultant
Job Description
This role focuses on serving as a sr Workday Payroll Consultant for a large-scale payroll transformation initiative. You will act as a key subject matter expert, bridging payroll data, processes, and reporting between Workday and PeopleSoft while supporting comprehensive testing, validation, and implementation activities. The organization is working through more than 3,000 payroll-related scenarios leading up to go-live and needs a consultant who can contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up time. You will play a central role in shaping future-state payroll processes, partnering with stakeholders across payroll, HRIS, finance, and implementation teams in a fully remote, high-visibility project environment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for payroll-related data, processes, and reporting across Workday and PeopleSoft.
  • Support all Workday Payroll implementation activities through go-live, ensuring alignment between legacy and future-state payroll environments.
  • Analyze, validate, and reconcile payroll data between legacy PeopleSoft and new Workday systems, handling large volumes of complex data.
  • Assist with payroll testing efforts, including unit testing, parallel testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and payroll validation.
  • Support execution of more than 3,000 payroll scenarios, including troubleshooting issues and ensuring accurate results.
  • Partner closely with payroll, HRIS, finance, and implementation teams to identify, investigate, and resolve payroll issues and discrepancies.
  • Identify and document payroll process gaps, system discrepancies, and areas for improvement between current and future-state processes.
  • Facilitate data conversion and validation activities to ensure accurate and complete migration from PeopleSoft to Workday.
  • Provide recommendations on payroll best practices during the implementation, leveraging deep knowledge of Workday Payroll and PeopleSoft.
  • Support cutover planning and go-live readiness activities, helping stakeholders prepare for transition and stabilize post-implementation.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to make informed decisions that support a successful payroll transformation at an enterprise scale.

Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience working with payroll systems in complex enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on Workday Payroll implementation experience spanning planning, testing, and go-live phases.
  • Strong, practical experience with PeopleSoft payroll, including data structures and process flows.
  • Proven experience supporting payroll testing and validation efforts, including unit, parallel, and UAT testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, validate, and reconcile large volumes of payroll data across multiple systems.
  • Experience operating in complex enterprise environments with large employee populations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced project environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with multiple Workday Payroll implementations is highly desirable.
  • Experience in migrating payroll operations from PeopleSoft to Workday.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour compliance, and payroll accounting principles.
  • Experience supporting large employee populations within enterprise organizations.
  • Previous consulting experience in payroll, HRIS, or enterprise systems implementation.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic decision-making with key stakeholders during a major transformation.
  • Interest in working on a high-visibility implementation project at a large, billion-dollar organization.

Work Environment
This position operates in a 100% remote work environment, offering flexibility while supporting a large-scale, enterprise-level Workday Payroll implementation. You will collaborate closely with payroll accounting leadership, IT teams, and payroll stakeholders across the organization, using modern collaboration tools to coordinate testing, data validation, and implementation activities. The project environment is fast-paced and transformation-focused, with streamlined processes including a one-round interview. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $64.00/hr.
