Job description

Position Title: Medical Coding Specialist
Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus
Role amp; Department: Coding Specialist (Physician Clinics) in the Health Information Management Department
Hours amp; Shift: Full-time (1.0 FTE) Day shift position, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please note that this role requires regular onsite attendance and is not fully remote. Following a satisfactory evaluation period, limited remote work flexibility (e.g., 2 days per week) may be granted.
Role Responsibilities:
  • This role involves coding office records from physician clinics including family practice and OB/GYN clinics via the electronic health record (EPIC)
  • Responsibilities include accurately coding diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10 coding guidelines and the CPT classification system and entering codes and other relevant data into the EPIC system to facilitate timely billing
  • The coder will also query and educate respective physicians on identified coding and documentation improvement areas to ensure proper coding and regulatory compliance
  • Maintaining professional competency and participating in coding compliance audits are required
  • Previous training in ICD-10 coding is highly beneficial
  • Will report to the Director of Health Information Management
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must hold a current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through either AHIMA or AAPC
  • A satisfactory skill level on HIM coding assessment is required
  • Strong familiarity with clinical procedures, medical terminology, disease processes, coding guidelines, and data processing/computer skills is required
  • Experience in a health care environment and medical coding is strongly preferred, although new graduate Medical Coders are encouraged to apply
