Remote Paralegal Assistant information

What is a remote paralegal assistant?

A Remote Paralegal Assistant is a legal professional who provides administrative and legal support to attorneys and law offices from a remote location, rather than working on-site. Their duties often include preparing legal documents, conducting research, managing case files, and communicating with clients or courts. Working remotely allows paralegal assistants to offer flexible support using technology such as email, cloud storage, and video conferencing. This role is ideal for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable with virtual collaboration tools.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote paralegal assistant?

To thrive as a Remote Paralegal Assistant, you need strong legal research and writing abilities, attention to detail, and a relevant paralegal certificate or associate’s degree. Familiarity with legal management software (such as Clio or MyCase), document preparation tools, and secure file-sharing platforms is essential. Excellent organizational skills, time management, and effective communication make someone stand out in this remote role. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring accurate legal support, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting attorneys efficiently from a distance.

How does a remote paralegal assistant effectively collaborate with attorneys and legal teams while working off-site?

Remote Paralegal Assistants typically use secure digital platforms to communicate and share documents with attorneys and legal teams. They attend virtual meetings, manage case files via cloud-based systems, and stay organized through regular updates and clear documentation. Building strong communication habits and being proactive about clarifying tasks are essential for ensuring seamless collaboration and meeting deadlines, despite the physical distance.

Job description

About the Opportunity
Equivity is seeking an experienced Florida Paralegal with at least three years of experience working in a California law firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Florida court procedures and experience supporting at least one of the following areas of law: civil litigation, family law, personal injury, probate, or related practice areas.

This is an assignment-based opportunity designed for paralegals who value the flexibility of remote work and enjoy supporting a variety of law firms and matters across the country. As client needs evolve, assignments and workload may vary based on business demand. This role is a good fit for an experienced paralegal who values professional flexibility and is comfortable with a workload that can fluctuate rather than requiring a guaranteed number of weekly hours from the outset.

When actively supporting clients, responsiveness is important. Because client needs can arise on short notice, paralegals are expected to remain responsive to their active clients and Equivity managers within one hour during their stated availability.

If you're an experienced Florida paralegal who appreciates autonomy, remote flexibility, and the opportunity to work with multiple legal teams, this assignment-based model may be a strong fit.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Drafting, formatting, proofreading, and revising pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Preparing and electronically filing documents in California state courts
  • Organizing electronic case files and maintaining supporting documentation
  • Assisting with discovery, document review, case preparation, and records management
  • Monitoring court deadlines, hearings, appointments, and case calendars
  • Supporting trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, binders, and witness materials
  • Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, and other third parties
  • Maintaining accurate case information within legal practice management systems
  • Adapting to the procedures, technology, and workflows of different attorneys and law firms

Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience working in a Florida law firm
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience supporting civil litigation, family law, personal injury, probate, or related matters
  • Working knowledge of Florida court rules, procedures, and e-filing systems
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal correspondence
  • Strong organizational, proofreading, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Clio or another legal practice management platform is preferred
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a professional remote workspace
  • Windows-based computer preferred
  • Availability of at least 20 hours per week to begin an assignment
  • Ability to remain responsive during stated availability within standard business hours

Compensation and Work Structure
  • W-2 employment
  • Compensation: $26 per hour
  • Assignment-based work with client assignments determined by demand, qualifications, and availability
  • Assignment volume and hours may vary
  • Client assignments may take time to develop and are not guaranteed immediately upon joining
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid sick time
  • Annual performance bonus
  • 6-month performance review with potential pay increase
  • Expense reimbursement
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Supportive long-term remote work environment
