SAP Order to Cash & Revenue Lead

Slate Auto

Remote

Full-time

Job description

ABOUT SLATE
At Slate, we're building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love-and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an SAP S/4HANA Order-to-Cash and Revenue Lead to own the order-to-cash and revenue towers of Slate's move from NetSuite to SAP. Reporting to Slate's Head of Finance Systems, this role owns sales order processing, billing, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and transaction tax determination in SAP. It is the team's center of gravity for the domain that becomes existential as Slate begins selling vehicles across consumer, commercial, financing, and the accessory marketplace. Because Slate is moving from pre-revenue to revenue through this implementation, this role designs the target state rather than digitizing an existing one. This is a permanent role with years of follow-on build beyond launch.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Order-to-Cash Design
  • Own the order-to-cash flow in SAP: sales order processing (SD), delivery, and billing, and the integration from Slate's order capture and order management systems into SAP.
  • Design AR sub-ledger processing, cash application, customer master, and credit management, and own validation of customer master and open AR across mock conversion cycles.
  • Partner with the Accounts Receivable Manager on day-to-day operations and acceptance, and with Consumer Financial Services and Commercial on channel-specific requirements.

Revenue Recognition
  • Own revenue recognition design (SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting, or the S/4HANA revenue recognition solution), aligning configuration to ASC 606 across vehicle sales, reservations and deposits, merchandise, accessories, and financing arrangements.
  • Partner with Technical Accounting and Tax on revenue policy, performance obligations, and the accounting for multi-element arrangements.

Transaction Tax, Billing, & Channel Integration
  • Own sales and use tax determination through the tax engine (Avalara) integration, coordinating with the FI/CO architect on input and use tax that rides procure-to-pay.
  • Build the finance requirements for integration into Consumer Financial Services, commercial and fleet sales, and the accessory marketplace, and flag downstream revenue and AR impacts of new sales channels, payment methods, and pricing before they go live.

Testing, Controls, & Roadmap
  • Lead order-to-cash and revenue user acceptance testing, and embed SOX-ready controls and segregation of duties into the design.
  • Own the order-to-cash and revenue backlog beyond launch as transaction volumes and sales channels scale.

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
  • 8+ years of SAP experience in order-to-cash and revenue, including multiple full-cycle S/4HANA implementations covering SD, FI-AR, and revenue recognition.
  • Hands-on command of SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR) or the S/4HANA revenue recognition solution, with working knowledge of ASC 606.
  • Experience designing multi-channel revenue and AR (consumer, commercial, financing, and marketplace), ideally in a manufacturing, automotive, or direct-to-consumer context moving from low or no revenue to scale.
  • Experience integrating SAP with order management systems, payment processors, tax engines (Avalara or Vertex), and financing or leasing platforms.
  • Strong grasp of AR sub-ledger design, billing, credit management, and customer master governance.
  • Experience writing functional specifications, leading user acceptance testing, and partnering with implementation partners and IT.
  • Familiarity with SOX requirements for revenue and AR systems, ideally in a pre-IPO or recently public-company environment.
  • Comfortable building target-state processes in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.

| LOCATION / TRAVEL
Remote eligible, with travel to Slate's Troy, Michigan headquarters during key design, integration, testing, and cutover phases (heavier onsite presence expected during fit-to-standard workshops and the cutover window).
WHY JOIN TEAM SLATE?
At Slate, we're fueled by grit, determination, and attention to detail. The start-up spirit of ingenuity and resourcefulness move our business forward. Team Slate fosters a culture of excellence, innovation, and mutual respect, and is motivated by shared principles.
  • Safety First
  • Delight Customers
  • One Team
  • Relentless Improvement
  • Fast, Frugal, and Scrappy
  • Respectful Collaboration
  • Positive Legacy
