Remote Online Proofreading information

What is remote online proofreading?

Remote online proofreading is a job where individuals review and correct written content for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting from a remote location, usually from home. Proofreaders ensure that documents are polished and error-free before publication or submission. This role often involves working with a variety of content, such as articles, books, websites, and academic papers, and communicating with clients or editors via email or project management platforms. The flexibility of remote online proofreading allows professionals to work for multiple clients or companies, often on a freelance or contract basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote online proofreader?

To thrive as a Remote Online Proofreader, you need excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides such as APA or Chicago Manual of Style is typically required. Attention to detail, strong time management, and clear communication stand out as essential soft skills. These abilities ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability, which are critical for delivering high-quality, error-free content remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by remote online proofreaders, and how can they overcome them?

Remote online proofreaders often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, staying focused without in-person supervision, and dealing with inconsistent document formats. To overcome these, it's essential to develop strong time management skills, create a dedicated and distraction-free workspace, and become proficient with proofreading tools and style guides. Regular communication with clients or team members also helps clarify expectations and ensures consistency in deliverables.

Are remote online proofreading jobs legit?

Remote online proofreading jobs are legitimate opportunities that involve reviewing and correcting written content for accuracy and clarity. Reputable employers typically require strong language skills, attention to detail, and sometimes certification or experience; scams are common, so job seekers should verify the company's credibility before applying.

To become a remote online proofreader, you should develop strong language and grammar skills, often by obtaining a certification such as the Certified Proofreader credential. Gaining experience through practice or freelance work and familiarizing yourself with editing tools like Microsoft Word or proofreading software can improve your prospects. Position Summary

Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking a skilled and experienced Proposal Manager to join our team. In this essential role, you will contribute to the seamless operation of our services, providing crucial support to our department in delivering exceptional client service and maintaining our commitment to excellence.

The Proposal Manager will play a critical role in the growth of the firm by leading the development of highly tailored, client-focused proposals, some in response to RFPs and RFIs and others as proactive pitch materials. Collaborating with attorneys, proposal team members, marketing and business development staff, and key members of administrative departments, this role will help develop business for the firm from both prospects and clients. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach, exceptional writing and project management skills, and the ability to produce high-quality, accurate material with remarkable speed.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal Development and Management

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of the proposal process, from initial scoping to confirmation of delivery, for complex RFPs, RFIs, informal requests, and other client-facing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, practice group leaders, marketing and business development team members, and key internal departments (including pricing, Knowledge Management, IT, HR, and the Office of the General Counsel) to develop highly tailored responses.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize persuasive and tailored proposal content, including executive summaries, firm overviews, attorney bios, practice and industry content, experience lists, and key firm differentiators.
  • Confirm compliance with RFP requirements, including format, deadlines, and submission requirements.

Collaboration and Strategy

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to attorneys on proposal strategy and positioning that aligns with the firm’s brand and long-term goals.
  • Assist in tracking and reporting on proposal metrics and ROI.
  • Use research tools (such as LexMachina and IBISWorld) to gather relevant information for proposal content.
  • Quickly produce and review drafts with a strong sense of personal responsibility.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple, concurrent proposal projects under tight deadlines with shifting priorities
  • Coordinate input from attorneys and other key members of the response to ensure timely delivery of all proposal sections, as well as the overall response.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.
  • Advanced degree or legal industry certifications (e.g., APMP, JD, MBA) a plus.

Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in proposal writing and management, preferably within a law firm, professional services firm, or other B2B environment.
  • Experience responding to complex RFPs for legal services or similar professional services clients.
  • Experience with online purchasing systems and other procurement-driven processes.

Skills

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities; able to handle multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with CRM tools such as Foundation and OnePlace would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of legal industry trends, client expectations, and competitive landscape.

Attributes

  • Highly responsive in terms of speed and accuracy
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinker with a client-centric mindset and ability to influence stakeholders
  • Ability to see both the details (including grammar and other rules), as well as the larger, strategic considerations for each request

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $125,000. Actual base pay within this range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Qualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with both the FCO and the California Fair Chance Act (FCA).
