DevOps/Cloud Engineer

Location: Des Moines, IA (Remote)

Brief Description

As a member of the Engineering team you will engineer, debug, maintain, and test software solutions to support the organization’s quality and reliability efforts. Active participant in planning and other agile meetings. Scope of work includes tasks in the backlog and analyzing incidents and outages for opportunities to improve. Provide off-hours on-call support as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Increase resilience of all systems through monitoring, automation and alerting.
  • Empower other teams to leverage monitoring tools and improve application reliability.
  • Promote a healthy culture of blameless postmortems to identify and fix root causes.
  • Learn, document, and communicate best practices.
  • Find and address performance issues.
  • Automate infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on the delivery of solutions.
  • Champion infrastructure code quality and maintainability.
  • Emphasis is on learning key aspects of the job to be performed, learning new things, and supporting more senior engineers.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.
  • Desire to learn with us.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Participate in off-hours on-call rotation.
  • Participate in weekly innovation days to work on self-directed projects or learning opportunities that benefit the company.
  • Provide second level troubleshooting support and assistance to other admins and engineers.
  • Attends and is prepared to participate in department and company meetings.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills Education & Experience
  • Fundamental understanding of Application Architectures and Development
  • Skilled in debugging, troubleshooting, and performing root cause analysis
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery tools and patterns such as Concourse CI, Jenkins
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Runscope, and Splunk
  • Infrastructure as Code using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Saltstack or Chef
  • Google Cloud, AWS, or related technologies
  • Experience with database systems such as Microsoft SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL preferred
  • Capable of writing detailed technical documentation for use by other teams
  • Programming abilities in languages such as Python, JavaScript, Go, Kotlin, or Ruby preferred
  • Qualification for the position is skills based. No minimum education is required.
  • Associates Degree or higher and/or related experience preferred.
  • Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer or equivalent preferred.
  • Splunk Core Certified User or equivalent preferred.
