The Military/VA Benefits Specialist serves as one of three School Certifying (SCO) Officials and has expert knowledge of state and federal veterans benefits and tuition assistance. The SCO is a representative of UNO who is authorized to submit enrollment certification to the Department of Veterans Affairs for VA education benefits. The Military/VA Benefits Specialist assists with certifying the following federal and state benefits: Chapter 30 Montgomery- Active Duty, Chapter 1606 Montgomery- Select Reserve, Chapter 35 Dependent Education Assistance, Chapter 33 Post 9-11, Nebraska Waiver of Tuition, Nebraska Reserve Tuition Credit, and Nebraska Tuition Remission. This position assists the Assistant Director/VA Benefits and the Financial Aid/Military/VA Benefits Specialist with VA Reporting, such as enrollment status changes and that only those courses that apply to a student's program are certified. This position advises and educates families, veterans and service members on their benefits, as well as federal financial aid.
Job Duties
Responsibility Area: Serve as School Certifying Official Duties:
Serves as a VA School Certifying Official and assists with certifying the following federal and state benefits: Chapter 30 Montgomery- Active Duty, Chapter 1606 Montgomery- Select Reserve, Chapter 35 Dependent Education Assistance, Chapter 33 Post 9-11, Nebraska Waiver of Tuition, Nebraska Reserve Tuition Credit, and Nebraska Tuition Remission. Helps reports suspension and graduation to VA.
Percentage Of Time 70 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Counsel Families, Veterans, and Service Members Duties:
This position advises and educates families, veterans and service members on their benefits, as well as federal financial aid.
Percentage Of Time 20 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Assist with Annual VA Audit Duties:
Cooperation and compliance with the annual VA audit process. Manages program approval with State Approving Agent and VA Education Liaison Representative. Keeps up-to-date on State and Federal regulations and benefits.
