Job description

About Field Materials AI
Field Materials develops AI-native material management software for construction. Our AI agents streamline material purchasing and equipment rentals, inventory management, and prefab operations. Our platform integrates with all major construction ERPs, eliminating manual data entry for purchase orders, invoices, delivery slips, and receipts; it saves 5-10% in material costs.
The company has grown 3x over the past year and is now processing $1.5B+ in construction purchasing volume. Founded by serial entrepreneurs with successful exits to Fortune 500 companies (including PayPal), the company has raised over $20M in total funding and is backed by leading Silicon Valley venture capital funds and senior executives from companies like Lowe's and Google.
Our company is the people we hire. We aspire to build a team of smart, high-caliber players that inspire each other to excel yet are not afraid to leave egos behind, roll up their sleeves, and fix what doesn't work. We don't believe in micromanagement and trust our team to take full ownership of their responsibilities. We believe in transparency as a way to build trust, break communication barriers, and align towards a common goal.
About the Role
As our part-time IT Manager, you will own the internal technology backbone of a fully remote, fast-scaling startup. You will be the go-to person for everything from laptop provisioning and SaaS administration to security and compliance, making sure our team has the tools, access, and protection they need to move fast without friction.
This is a hands-on, high-trust role with broad autonomy. You won't have a large team to delegate to - you'll be designing and running the systems yourself, then documenting and automating them so they scale. Because we sell to enterprise contractors and handle sensitive financial data, you'll also play a central role in our security posture and compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2). If you like owning IT end to end, thrive without a playbook, and want meaningful impact in roughly 20 hours a week, this is the perfect place to be.
Responsibilities
  • Device & Endpoint Management: Procure, provision, and manage company laptops and hardware across a distributed team. Administer MDM, disk encryption, and endpoint security across macOS.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Build and run smooth, secure onboarding and offboarding workflows so new hires are productive on day one and departing employees are fully deprovisioned.
  • Security & Compliance: Partner with leadership to maintain and improve our security posture, support SOC 2 readiness and audits, respond to customer security questionnaires, and enforce sensible policies for a remote-first company. Collect up-to-date audit evidence and own SOC 2 IT controls.
  • SaaS Administration: Own the day-to-day administration of our core stack (Google Workspace, Slack, and other business-critical SaaS tools), including license management, configuration, and cost optimization.
  • Identity & Access Management: Manage SSO, multi-factor authentication, and least-privilege access controls. Process access provisioning requests and perform periodical access reviews.
  • Help Desk & Support: Serve as first-line IT support for the team, resolving technical and access issues quickly and clearly.
  • Vendor & Asset Management: Manage IT vendors and renewals, perform vendor security reviews, risk assessments, and keep documentation up to date.
  • Process & Automation: Document IT processes and automate repetitive tasks so that systems scale faster than headcount.
About You
  • Owner Mindset: You take full responsibility for our IT and security operations and don't wait for instructions to improve a process.
  • Effective Communicator: You can explain technical concepts simply to non-technical teammates and write clear documentation that others can follow.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: You enjoy "rolling up your sleeves" to make things work within a startup's real-world constraints, balancing speed, security, and cost.
  • Security-Minded: You instinctively think about access, data protection, and risk, and you keep security practical rather than bureaucratic.
  • Self-Directed: You're comfortable working independently in a part-time, remote capacity and managing your own time against clear outcomes.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience in IT administration, IT management, or a similar role, ideally at a startup or SaaS company.
  • Hands-on experience administering Google Workspace, Slack, MDM solutions, and SSO/identity providers (e.g., Okta, Google, or similar).
  • Experience managing fleets of macOS devices in a remote-first environment.
  • Working knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, SOC 1, ISO 27001, or similar) and experience supporting audits or security questionnaires.
  • Strong documentation skills and a bias toward automating repetitive work.
  • Experience scripting or working with IT automation tools is a plus.
  • Experience with compliance automation platforms (e.g., Drata, Vanta) is a plus.
Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive Compensation: Above-market hourly or part-time salary, with the potential for stock options.
  • Flexibility: Set your own schedule around roughly 20 hours per week in a fully remote environment.
  • Growth: Opportunity to shape and own the IT function of a fast-growing startup, with room to expand the role over time.
  • Perks: Company laptop and the tools you need to do great work.
