Draper, UT • On-site, Remote

Job description

Make your impact within a rapidly growing fintech company.

BILL's Communications team is entering an exciting new chapter. We are a unified external and internal communications function - a small but mighty team laying the foundation for what exceptional, AI-native communications looks like at a high-growth fintech company. We move fast, experiment boldly, and are serious about building the playbook from the ground up.

We are looking for a stellar Senior Manager, Communications & AI Innovation who thrives on delivering strategic, company-wide messaging that spans employee experience and external narrative. This person will be our go-to partner for AI and innovation storytelling, helping shape how BILL communicates its product evolution, its AI transformation, and its customer impact to both internal and external audiences.

We have offices in the Bay Area and Draper, UT, but this is a remote-first role. We have a preference for candidates in West Coast / MT timezones, but we are committed to finding exceptional talent. We are an AI-first team and use AI actively in our day-to-day work. We expect this person to bring genuine curiosity, a startup mindset, and a willingness to push the boundaries of how internal and external communications get done.

What you'll do

AI & Innovation Communications

  • Own BILL's AI and innovation narrative - internally and externally - translating complex, fast-moving topics into clear, compelling stories that build confidence and excitement across audiences.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering executives and senior leaders to develop messaging around AI strategy, product innovation, and evolving ways of working, ensuring the narrative is credible, timely, and audience-specific.
  • Serve as the team's go-to expert for product and innovation communications, connecting the dots between internal culture and external brand.

Product & Launch Communications

  • Lead communications strategy and execution for product launches across BILL's core lines, delivering coordinated internal and external messaging that helps employees understand and customers trust what we build.
  • Own the delivery of product announcements to BILLders and lead the ideation and execution of internal product programs.
  • Establish and refine scalable communications processes so launches feel coordinated, consistent, and easy for employees and external audiences to follow.

Engineering & Technical Communications

  • Support engineering and technical teams with targeted internal and external communications, helping surface the 'why it matters' behind infrastructure investments, platform changes, and technical milestones.
  • Bridge technical depth and audience accessibility, ensuring complex engineering stories land clearly across channels.

Executive & Strategic Communications

  • Offer strategic guidance and communications support to senior leaders across Product and Engineering, ensuring alignment with BILL's overarching goals.
  • Craft compelling narratives, talking points, presentations, and messaging that help leaders land complex messages clearly and at the right moment, internally and externally.
  • Coach leaders on how to communicate with employees, media, and social audiences with confidence and authenticity.

Culture & Operations

  • Champion communication practices that foster inclusion, transparency, and connection across the workforce.
  • Experiment with formats, tools, and AI-powered technologies to evolve how BILL communicates, and model what it looks like to be an AI-native team.
  • Work collaboratively across BILL, leveraging influence to build strong partnerships and drive alignment across teams.

We'd love to chat if you have

  • 8-10 years of experience in external and internal communications, with strong depth across internal, external, and executive communications, and genuine experience operating across all three.
  • A proven track record in both internal and external communications, with the ability to move fluidly between employee storytelling and media/external narrative.
  • Experience supporting product executives and building communications strategies around product innovation, launches, or technology change.
  • Real enthusiasm for AI, not just familiarity with the topic, but hands-on curiosity and a genuine desire to use AI tools to work smarter and tell better stories.
  • Exceptional storytelling instincts, with the ability to turn complex product or technical topics into clear, inspiring narratives for both internal and external audiences.
  • Event management experience, including product showcases.
  • Experience communicating about fintech, product launches, or customer-facing innovation in ways employees can easily understand and rally around.
  • A startup mentality, high autonomy, comfort with ambiguity, and a bias toward action and experimentation.
  • The ability to zoom out to the big picture while also operating effectively in the details.
  • Excellent writing, editing, slide design, and message architecture skills, with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Comfort working remotely and across time zones; West Coast / MT timezones preferred.

Why this role is exciting

  • AI & Innovation at the center: This role exists precisely because BILL is transforming into an AI-native company and needs someone who can own that story, inside and out. You'll shape how we communicate our AI evolution across products, teams, and external audiences at a pivotal moment.
  • Unified team, full canvas: You'll join a communications function that owns both internal and external narrative. That means you'll have real influence over how BILL's story is told - no siloed swim lanes, no passing the baton.
  • High visibility, real ownership: You'll work directly with senior leaders across product and engineering and play a meaningful role in major launches, change moments, and AI strategy communications from day one.
  • Build the playbook: The previous leader built a strong foundation around product pride, AI adoption, and customer affinity. This is your opportunity to take that work further, and put your own stamp on what great communications looks like at BILL.
  • Remote-first, talent-first: We believe great communicators exist everywhere. We've built this role to attract and retain the best, wherever they are.
