About the role
We're looking for a detail-oriented, people-first People Operations Specialist to join our team here at DFTBA!

What you'll do
  • Administer and maintain HR policies in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, leave administration, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Coordinate and process biweekly payroll.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave programs, and employee perks.
  • Support managers with performance documentation, corrective action, policy interpretation, and performance review coordination.
  • Partner with hiring managers on recruitment activities, including job postings, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
  • Coordinate onboarding to ensure new employees feel welcomed and prepared, with clear training on culture, policies, and role expectations.
  • Administer leave of absence programs across all states where employees work, ensuring compliance, clear communication, and accurate documentation.
  • Respond to employee workplace concerns with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality, escalating complex matters to the Director of People Operations as appropriate.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, recognition efforts, and feedback processes.
  • Organize company-wide and team-specific events - virtual and in-person - to foster camaraderie and connection.
  • In partnership with the Director of People Operations, maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with the DFTBA Workers Union, supporting consistent CBA application and acting as a reliable, trustworthy point of contact for union-related questions and concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to improve hiring, onboarding, and employee experience processes.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience within an HR function.
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Solid knowledge of fundamental HR concepts, policies, and employment law.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Rippling, ADP, BambooHR).
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, particularly Google Sheets and Google Drive.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
