Marine Estimator (Remote)

Department: Estimating
Reports To: Chief Estimator / VP of Operations
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Remote (Pacific Time Preferred)


About the Opportunity

A growing marine services organization is seeking an experienced Marine Estimator to support vessel repair, construction, retrofit, and conversion projects. This position offers the flexibility of working remotely while collaborating with engineering, project management, and operations teams to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge of marine systems, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for vessel repair, new construction, conversion, and retrofit projects.
  • Review specifications, drawings, bid packages, and customer requirements to develop accurate proposals.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, naval architects, and procurement personnel to gather technical information.
  • Develop and maintain estimating databases, labor rates, and vendor pricing.
  • Prepare professional bid proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously while ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Conduct post-bid reviews and analyze project performance to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and occasional site visits when required.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and market pricing within the maritime sector.

QualificationsRequired
  • 3โ€“5+ years of experience in marine estimating, shipbuilding, vessel repair, or related maritime industries.
  • Strong understanding of vessel systems, including hull, mechanical, electrical, and piping.
  • Ability to read and interpret marine engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with USCG, ABS, and other classification society requirements.
  • Experience with commercial or government shipyard contracting processes.
  • Knowledge of tugboats, barges, offshore support vessels, and workboat operations.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, or similar project management platforms.
